Hey all,

Dont remember how I found this place but I did. Im new and just thought I would introduce myself. I am Adam, Im from Melbourne, and am going to start Kitesurfing (duh!)

I will mainly be conducting down at apollo bay, as my folks have a house down their and the bay makes for excellent learning conditions.

I actually aquired some gear tonight via a trade. I had an old computer here that the person selling the kite gear wanted, so we did a trade. The gear is all brand new, aside from the board, which only has a few scratches, etc.

My previous sporting events include ice hockey, inline hockey, skateboarding, and surfing. Always been into less common sports. Also used to do quite a bit of half pipe so im used to the air up their :>

I figure the gear I have is good enough to start. You can see what I got here in the for sale thread:

Im going to get a couple of lessons first as I want full control over the kite before I head off into the deep blue.

Anyways love to hear from some people about the gear I just got, comments? BTW, they are 25m lines.

Cheers all. Im EXCITED!!!

Hello! Have someone who knows what they are doing check your gear out Adam, and make sure it is suitable for you. Our crashes hurt alot more than when your computers do.

Thanks for the initial reply. I have updated the main post with links to the gear. I did a dry run last night or setting up the kite, sorting lines, harness, etc. All seemed pretty straight forward and self explanitory.

One thing im not sure of is where the long bungie type safety release attaches to. I figured out how to use everything but this. Any ideas? Does it connect to your chicken loop ring or something?

Before you use the gear, get some lessons. Take your gear with you to the lessons and get the instructor to check it and run through using the stuff.

Hi Adzza,

Look mate I'm in the same boat as you LEARNER. I had to wait for my gear to arrive, so I joined this forum in the meantime and got as much info I could to prepare myself.

I'm an ex-windsurfer, I thought no worries I'll just learn about the different equipment and use my knowledge to get by. But no way mate the more I read the more I realised this is not only a dangerous sport for yourself but the general public included.

I would suggest you get at least 1 lesson. The first lesson will be all about setting up the kite, operating the safety equipment, wind window principles, obviously flying the kite and some body dragging in a controled enviroment.

I know they are expensive, but they are essential to have. I had 1 lesson the instructor said next lesson for me was on a board. I thought I'd just give it ago first for a couple of weeks, if I don't progress in that time then I'm going to dig deep and cough up some more dosh.

If you swapped the gear and it hasn't cost you much so far then $150 is about the going rate for 2 hours would be money well spent. Then you find out about the safety leash which by the way does not go on the chicken loop, depending on the setup it will either be a wrist leash or one you attach to your harness.

Good luck mate and maintain safety as the priority.

Adzza, welcome to the best sport on earth.
Don't know if you noticed, but you also got a free dolphin, shark, and jellyfish when you purchased your gear.
As for the bungy..you can connect it to your harness, ,left or right side it doesn't matter, or to the stainless ring on your chicken loop..see
http://www.extremeair.no/content/gaastra.asp?artikkelID=85
As you become more skilled yo can use the bungy as a suicide leash if required.
Hope this helps.
p.S. Don't worry about the jellyfish

Hehe. I got a free shark with my surfboard so I dont need anymore! lol.

Yeah it appears to be a fantastis sport, provided the right, and safe approach is taken.

Anyone checked out my gear yet?

BTW: The PC I traded was not "old", but not my main PC as such. Probably worth about $500 these days.

Im fairly certain I got a great deal.

just had a look at the pics.
can't say much about it really.
gaastra gaastra gaastra.
is there a model name or somthing on the kite?
Can someone comment on gaastra kites for our new friend?

that's the kite.

was that a picture of your surfboard after a shark had a go at it, it appeared to be missing a bit at each end
I'm no expert but that board might be the first thing you replace, But it would make a great wall mount in the pool room, you would look like you have kitesurfing for about 8 years, but it will be fine to learn on i'm sure.

get ready for a fun learning curve, it's well worth it, and definatley get the lessons so the instructor can drum into you how to be safe and use your gear safely.

mmm..very encourgaging...

Ive compared my bars to newer ones, and cant see to much of a difference, apart from fancy colours, etc. Of all the reading I have done, the bars seem to support all the recommended safety features, etc. The harness seems to be a pretty standard thing. Has under straps to to stop it from rising.

Board looks a little dated, but meh, got to start somewhere. Its one of the newer LEI or something kites, the blow up ones.

Dont take any of the lame ass comments to heart...(DSpruce)
Stonka asymetrical twintip is perfect for learning, as is the kite set-up.
Get some lessons and she'll be right

ive been on my gaastra 10m gspot and prefer this size as it gives me the best wind range for my weight (13 - 25 knots).

Hit up Kiterdan..It seems he's got first knowledge of the Gspot....Heheheheheheh
