Yep stayed at that same hotel last year for a couple of weeks in March. No wind to speak of as it was the rainy season. The pictures of the hotel you see are touched up for sure. It is old and certainly not as 5 star as the pictures make out. Don't expect the Sheraton but if it is just somewhere to sleep at night you need, then it will do the job. You can rent a 3 cylinder charade across the road for equivalent of $15 a day.
Stick with a car, stay away from the scooters and motorbikes, the local's driving too dangerous and don't let them keep your passport when booking. Give them a copy only.
Make sure you go on the cable car ride early in the morning, it is something else.
You MUST go to a little restaurant called Wonderland in Kedah, the main town. The seafood is amazing!!!! and at such good prices. The prawns are a must. The whole experience is great.

For a top a top class experience, check out the Four Seasons hotel in Langkawi, OMG.!!!!!!!!!!!
