Did anyone see on TV over the weekend a programme like funniest home videos? A friend of mine informed me there was a kitesurfer on there who was doing some awesome jumps over rocks, but it went wrong and whilst jumping over some rocks he had to dump his board, the kite lost wind, he was dumped on the rocks on his back then was picked up by the wind again to fall somewhere else. After seeing this my friend was shocked at how dangerous the sport was........these kind of incidents don't advertise our sport well to the non participating public so the question is......should they be shown?
As it was entitled "stupid behaviour: caught on tape", it just goes to show people don't realise the dangers until it hurts them. The individual wasn't wearing any PPE but I'm not sure if I have more contempt fot the twit riding a jet ski whilst balancing on his head and powering straight into a limestone sea wall. Its assumed most jetski riders are idiots because of this behavior and it appears some individuals on kiting ego trips are going to do the same - hopefully Darwins Theory will come into full affect next time - before injurying a third party.
Hang on a sec! I'm sure I see both of these knob-ends on the freeway most days - or are they breeding?!? I'am a big Darwin believer - just try to stay at least one evolutions length away from these Cheers,
Yeah that video is a couple of years old. It was filmed in Maui @ kite beach. The rider is an australian. The Guy who helped him out of the water was Jimmy Lewis, the world famous board shaper in Maui. The storey was covered in an old kite mag a few years ago. Thats the first time i've ever seen the video of it.
the guy you are thinking of was Dave Edwards a kiwi kite instructor I think based in Mt Maunganui,,, it was a few years ago in Maui... jumped the rock groyne 2 out of 3 attempts!
This latest vid was someone else but looked like Maui also.
