Hey hey,

So I was looking at different home insurance options and was thinking I'd ask the kite community about what type of insurance you guys are on.
When I was living in Sweden, I had this home insurance plus additional accidental damage insurance which pretty much covered everything that could happened to my stuff. Basically, anything from theft to damaging the kite by crashing it was covered, which was awesome. I actually ended up with a kite split in two after a guy ran over it with his board in the water, which the insurance covered and I got a new one a week later.
So thats the kind of thing I'm looking for here in OZ.

Do you guys have any insurance for your gear that you could recommend?

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about the kind of reliability insurance that the NSWKA (or KA) membership covers (damage to other peoples property etc), I'm talking about theft / loss / damage to your own stuff, and especially kites and related equipment.

Cheers!

Normal home insurance generally covers stuff for theft and accidental damage. It's usually $1000 per item so it does not entirely cover the cost of a new kite.

You can take out additional cover for specified items away from the home, but it gets very expensive very quickly.

I suspect all insurance policies in Australia require you to take due care of your stuff. That generally means your stuff is covered if locked in a house or a car. It's not covered if it's sitting on the beach or if you're using it at the time.

I have my kites and board (tools, SUP etc as well) listed on my H&C insurance with RAC and no issues (yet). Mind you my policy is only covered at home.

I know our jewellery (wedding rings) are covered for use outside the home and they are paying out my claim for when i lost my ring ($1000++) kiting a few weeks back.
