Hi, I'm riding at the stage where i'm staying upwind, but want to learn quick ways of loosing ground... ie... boosting high like i see everyone else do.

I unerstand theres 2 ways of jumping. 1. loading the lines and just poping off your edge, and 2. Sending the kite.

If someone could explain both of these just a bit more it would be a great help.

When ever i try and "send" the kite, it usually just stops me dead on the water and doesn't seem to lift me. Do i need to be more powered up?

And when i try the loading my lines and poping method, i usually just stop on the water, or i get almost no air and just skim accross the water.
Any tips would be great.
thanks.

Ok too do a normal jump you need a lo of edge aswell, this is where a lot of beginners go wrong. The key is to go fast, you mite want to edge downwin slightly before hand to gather some speed. Anyway once u got speed and your pointing upwind you need to crank your kite back fast as you can from whereveer it is (for begginers try from about 10 oclock) when you feel this pull it is important not to give into it just yet. Once you feel like you r reaching the maium ammount of pull realase your edge, and up you go.

As for popping you just need a lot of speed, maybe a wave for beggines and similar process bare downwind slightly teh n quickly edge upwind gathering as much power as possible then make sure you release it at the right spot. Begginners always release to early, hope that helps.

Get yourself an instructional kiteboarding DVD and just watch over and over. There is nothing like the POV cam's to show you exactly what the rider is doing.

The BOOST series whilst corny and make you want to ram your twintip down the narrators throat - but cover the material.

Fat Sand have got a good instructional called "KiteBoarding Progression" but this doesnt specifically cover jumps, but integrates them into backs/fronts and transitions. Besides which it is shot in Hurghada, Egypt which is flat water droolsville.

Also another good resource is www.kitesurfingschool.org

If I could give you one piece of advice it would be to undercontrol the kite whilst you are learning to send it. You need much less bar input than you would think - best way of reducing over-controlling the kite is to move your hands to the centre of the bar. When you start jumping, start your kite very high in the window just to get the feel and do small "hops" - depending on the wind strength will depend on how far you have to send it to get boosted...in nuking conditions you only have to waggle it at the top of the window and it will pull you off the water like an elevator.

Enjoy !
