I tried new stuff.

I was friendly on the water.

I picked up some garbage and landed and launched a few kites.

One hour going hard is the best.........I will cruise for hours at the right spot though.

- By how much heat I'm putting out when I'm lying in bed later that evening.

- If I only came in because I couldn't do any more, not because the wind dropped out or I had to leave to do something else.

- If things I normally struggle with come to me easier

- If you can share an epic moment with someone on the beach at the end of the day and they understand what you are on about.

I just enjoy it and no need to do a 12 page essay on how good it was :P

So you evaluate it based on things that don't happen? You realise you could just stay in bed and achieve all of the above.

Fun vs. Grief.
If you go out against the will of the other you are going to get grief. It is going to take a damn good session to counter-act the amount of grief you cop, but if the session is a good one, it can more than counter-act any amount of grief!
If you go out with full blessings and have an awesome session then you have maxed out the graph and life does not get better.
If you go out with blessings and have a crappy session then the fun vs. grief is still a good ratio and the session is a success (better to have a **** session than none).
If, however, you go out not-so-blessed, which will end with endless amounts of grief, and the session is not such a good one then the fun/grief ratio is all out of whack and it will amount to a crap session and endless grief when at home = not good at all!
I always try to aim to keep the fun/grief ratio at least 1:1 or better eg. if it's blowing its tits off and going to be a killer session then bugger it, everything else comes in second and the grief will be worth it. If it is looking like being average conditions then I may pass up a session or have a short session to keep the other happy.

easy day at work (or no work) +
no muscle ache from previous day +
consistent wind +
flat water
= PERFECT SESSION
= Life doesn't get any better

(key ingredient is consistent wind though)

fun factor! it's a complicated equation that goes something like this:

rideable little waves+clean wind+right size kite / surfers in the way x amount of beers afterwards. If the beers are provided by someone else +10

Thats an easy one.

I open my eyes in the morning and see that I live in WA, thats puts a smile on my face to begin with.

Session value is measured by size on grin on my face when walking up the beach rolling my lines after a session. Happens most days in WA between Oct and March.

Hi HB,

I assume you're talking to me and refering to the thread the other day about Little Island. Dude, seriously, if you think that spot is a secret that no one knows about, then you're a friggin' noob. It's my local wave and it can be easily seen from the beach, especially when there are kites or sailboards out there. Simply by riding it with a kite or pole screams, "Here it is".

It's been a surfing wave forever and EVERYONE knows about it. It's been a windsurfing wave forever, and all Northern Poley's know it. Everyone who kites the coast of Perth know's it. It's no secret and it's good once in every pancake day so it'll never be crowded.

Little Island is about as secret as "The Spot". There are no SECRET spots along the Perth Coastline.

Get a life!

howdy kitehard,
better i pipe down a bit (not), my post was directed at educating kooks about not mouthing (interneting) off about locations, we know most metro spots around oz arent really secrets, but my understanding is that by posting locations for all to view about your local or wherever is simply stupid.
AT WHAT POINT DO YOU DRAW THE LINE?
sounds as though you are experienced bloke running a kite school and all so i thought you would know better.
you see, alot of noobs start on wakeboard /twin tip style boards with little or no understanding of the surf, wave conditions. they simply grab a kite/board a few lessons and hit the water. then they will hone their skills on flat water trying to pick up the basics, then soon as thats mastered its all about big air. boosts/jumps ect.
then one day they get bored of this.... (understandable)
they decide to hit the waves...
THEY HAVE NO IDEA.
it would be nice if kite schools/ those teaching could include a few pointers to noobs wakestyle/surf/freestyle whatever about wave/surf etiquite (before letting them loose) tellling everyone where all the good spots are is simply a no, no and one of the first things you learn about the waves when learning...you if anyone should know better ....smarten up..
