Wikipedia says 200 000. That source is like 3 years old (just before the Bow Kite), so it would be close to double now I would say.

There are 2500 kiters in WA.....
of which 500 are signed-up, tagged and fully certified to kook-out.

Now those are big numbers slave.....I can remember going to wally on a Sat. E and there would be a couple people out....today by 9am there were about thirty out and another 20 kites littering the spit...all real pleasant really I thought. Reminded me of the scene at a ski resort on a really majic day. Managed to do a 1 hour upwinder and avoid the crowds

well i see a few, probably 24-25 at noosa. sometimes i see a few at caloundra and moroochy. i know for a fact there are some over on the west coast.

so australia alone your probably looking at about 250 odd.

now mutiply that by 7 (number of continents).

thats 250 x 7 = 1850.

just remeber this is a rough guestimate. dont QFT.
