I'm after some help to replace a frayed rope on the depower to chicken loop. 2009 bar but newer ones similar.
Ive taken out the 2 screws on the rope cleat and the 2 that go into the rope thru the neck of the chicken loop, but don't know how to get the rope out thru the tube. The rope turns but won't go fwd or back and looks like it is doubled over when looking thru the bottom.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Do I need to buy a special slingshot replacement rope or a similar rope from a yachting shop?

Cheers
Dale

When you get frustrated and want to cut it off, DONT. knowing the way it comes apart really helps with the re assemble.
Have fun!!

Ze rope is tied into a knot behind a steel insert
Grab the doubled over bit with some needle nosed pliers and pull out
Undo knot, remove steel bit

Thanks guys the u tube video is brilliant and easy to find.
I did not realise that there is a steel bearing in there now rusty which you replace from a skateboard shop, and pull this out with the long nose pliers due to the formation of salt and rust. Cover the new one in grease to keep the water out.

Note that there is a standard ABEC skate bearing in the top of the chicken loop that the line goes through. It is probably rusted to bits and no longer functional. But you definitely want to dig it out and remove it before replacing the line. Go to a skate shop and get an new bearing, cover it in lithium grease before inserting it. The chicken line goes through the skate bearing--just tie a good knot in it to keep it from pulling through the skate bearing and don't worry about having to sew up up like the original. You will note that after you put it all together, that unless you pre-stretch the line you will get a gap between the chick loop and the cleat as soon as the line stretches under tension. SO, install the line i the chicken loop, pre-stretch the line THEN and ONLY THEN, slide the cleat down on top of the chicken loop and put the screws into the line to hold the cleat on. Otherwise it will look like hell. Good luck.

Don't replace the bearing it will just seize and cause problems. Replace it with 3 stainless washers as they turn freely on each other and will still be good when you have to throw the bar away.

We're all to compliant,l've been flying slingshot kites for many years and they are a great kite, but the center line or depower rope what ever you want to call it wears out to quick, not good enough for a kite you pay top dollar for, just my thoughts while we're on this subject...
