my rope from chicken loop snapped just as i went out for a second session yesterday but held on by the stopper ball so could still fly but the rope was extended further out than normal so wasn't holding its shape well. I made it into the beach and by adjusting rope length through the cleat i could reset the right line length

So hypothetically, coz i dont want the nanny police on my case, should i have gone out for another 40 mins with this setup? and, yes, i had just seen the pretty badly fraying rope during the session before and thought i'd better get on to changing it

and what have you rigged to kite home?

if you had gone for 40 mins and then had an accident would you be posting this topic? Maybe it's time to learn how to change the slingshot depower rope?

Well done macguyver

Change the name from emergency rig to indonesian rig and it'll see you out to the end of the season

You made the best decision, mate had you gone back out and the wind got up it would of been hard to depower more and youd of been loading up the remaining single line to the max,Dyneema can look a bit frayed and can be rotten ,if it looks dodgy then best to replace, i always carry a replacement depower line in the car for just such a day.

I wouldn't let a little problem like that screw up a good session either.

My Granny showed me how to do a knot like that once.

Sometimes things break and bring your session to a premature end. That's just the nature of the sport - no different to when I used to sail and once a season something would break (invariably at the start of the season when you pull your gear out after a winter)

You do the MacGuyver if you can to get yourself back to shore but never head back out with it set up like that. You are setting yourself up for pain, or at the very least, you will spend your time out on the water with one nervous eye on the jerry rig rather than getting stuck into it. Use the opportunity to duck off to the shop and pick up a replacement.

Look after your gear!
That hurts me too even look at.
Why put the odds of something stupid happening too you or some bystander greater than they already are!
Seems really dumb too me.
