I have to agree with galah, the standards are way too low you get complete newbies getting certified and trying to teach people.I think its a joke and nothing but a money making scheme.I would fell pretty pissed off if i learnt for a complete gumby and found out that i can kite better than him after just a few hours.

"how can you be an IKO instructor if you are not yet able lot ride a board "

thats a good question Galah (it might be a good idea in future that you don't gloss over the question mark on your keyboard so that no one is confused) I am sure that answers if that is what you seek will be forthcoming.

"yes"

I am interested in your experience and why you think this way?My experience was that it really contributed to my knowledge and has helped my teaching method .Our teacher was Daz Marshall.

I think galah's post was a pun on "not on board" wanting to be an instructor.

AKS say prerequisites are-
Be at least 18 Y.O.
Have a boat drivers license or equivalent competencies (if applic)
Have a valid First Aid certificate
Have previous teaching experience preferably in water or air sports.
Have been kiting for at least 6 months
Be at least an IKO Level 3 kiteboarder

Don't see how a complete gumby can become an instructor.

never heard of having previous teaching experiance before and 6 months exp what is that really, how do you know how long somebody has been kiting for. They could have been only kiting for days and still say 6 months how do you know? when i did mine there were four guys who could not even relaunch their kites properly let alone stay up wind yet they all passed. I'am not saying the head instructors like darren aren't compenant but more so the students they teach.

Thanks for the responses. I would like to think that us kitesurfers would use "common sense" when showing interest in a class that teaches kite surfing instructors. If you actually read the post, you would see that I need you to call the shop for more information. this is not a "money making" scheme as some may suggest, but it is an opportunity for QUALIFIED kitesurfers to teach students and build the sport of Kitesurfing!
thanks

Hey Galah,
I figured that I could just teach the newbies how to fly the kite on the beach and body drag. No need to be on a board at all. That zoomin around on the water looks crazy scarey.
Would much rather be practicing my kiteloops on the good old terra firma. I should be pretty good at flying the kite on the beach as I will have been doing this for 4 years(this October).

You still can't even gybe yet so I guess Galah's right.

Hey Hurrah
you're one to talk. You have owned to date, Rhino1 16, Yarga12, BladeIII, Windwing rage8 and 12, Cab xbow 12 and 16, now a TD 14 and im sure i have missed a couple of kites. All of this in just over 2 years and you still plow the water like a farmers daughter. If you would just spend more time on the water and less time buying kites and then selling them, you could have something to show me.

The IKO and Darren Marshall are a good thing ! I filled the last place, Good teacher, The IKO is much more than learning to kite!
