Hi all, Just wondering where do you hurt after a massive trick gone wrong when kiting? I have hurt my ass too close to shore on hard sand.

I am wondering where the most comon injuries occur when kiting and how to try prevent them.

Please list your pains either casual riding or when doing tricks.

Thanks for your input

No pain .... no gain ..... With they way wind is in Sydney you can't even get on the water to tempt the pain Gods.
You just gotta envy the sandgropers ... constant green arrows .... ah ,, it would be nice.

Knees.... always my knees. Riding older style glass boards that slap the water, tranfering all the shock straight into the nearest big joint. Not so bad on the ankles, but not so good either. The new style of boards are luxuriously soft rides by comparison, definitely worth the $$ if you've got it.

Uber,

You should be ashamed, I'm gonna call the RSPCA and report you for injuring poor innocent donkeys on the beach.

It would be much more humane to injure your own arse rather than a poor old donkey.

Lower back injuries from when I was a teenager, constantly recurring from kiteloops on short lines. If they weren't soooo much fun, i'd probably stop doing them and give up the week of crippling back pain they inflict on me. Also known as old mans back

Also extremely painful inflamed tendons running through my shoulder joint. This one is constant unless I take an operation where they grind out the joint to make room for the oversized tendons Think I'll enjoy the pain a little longer thanks.

Kitesurfing, it hurts so good

I have a permanently broken bone in my foot - hard landings don't let it heal. And a sore elbow sometimes, but that's it!

Put blue tac in it (for the water, not just the fashionable look). Works a treat. And if you have problem with 'swimmers ear', put dry your ears out with a hairdryer when you get home (can you tell I blew an eardrum?)

Always in my hip pocket!! Every time i get that stabing pain there either my ex-wife or greenleader seems to get some enjoyment!!. Not bitchin tho greeny, always happy to put your kids through school. LOL.

That reminds me of a story

Alex and I were fishing in my boat near a bridge. There a couple of hours, caught a couple, when a funeral procession crossed the bridge. I put me beer on the seat and silently stood. I then removed my hat, placed my hand over my heart and waited till it had passed. Alex said "Hell mate, I didn't know anyone could be that affected by a simple funeral procession". I replied "It's the least I could do, We were married for ten frigin years".

What bout the other time we were fishin

Greeny and I were fishing when I pulled out a cigar but didn't have a lighter so I asked Greeny for a light. "Ya, shure, I tink I haff a lighter", he replied. He reached into his tackle box and pulled out a 10-inch BIC lighter. "Jiminy Cricket!" I said, "Vhere did yew get dat monster?" "Well", replied Greeny, "I got it from my Genie". "You haff a genie?" I asked. "Ya, shure, he's right here in my tackle box", said Greeny. "Could I see him?" Greeny opens his tackle box and out pops the genie.

I says, "Hey Dere! I'm a good friend of your master. Will you grant me one wish?" "Yes I will", the genie said. So I asked him for a million bucks and the genie hops back into the tackle box and leaves me standing there waiting for his million bucks. Suddenly the sky begins to darken and the sound of million ducks flying overhead is heard. I yells to Greeny, "I asked for a million bucks - not ducks!" Greeny answers, "Ya, I forgot to tell yew, da genie is hard of hearing. Do you really tink I asked him for a 10-inch BIC?

Hey Psylor that's the joy of rib grief. Unless you hear or feel
something go SNAP, you really don't know how much damage you've done for a day or 2.

i won the "most likely to kill someone if i dont get to kite award" lol
The weather was ****e for kiting most of the time, had a few good kites.
The quote of the trip was definately....
"This trip is a big sh1t sandwhich and everyone has to take a bite"

The whole insta crowd thing and the 'circus has come to town greatings' that we got where fkn cool though. It was sooooo much fun, you just cant explain, not like any trip ive ever done before or will ever get to do again.

I'm back home too
I sorta liked the more often quoted
"you should ave bin ere yesterday"
Or the most often heard quote of the trip
"they reckon its blowing 15 to 20 50 kms south"
But even "he most likely to kill" is right - the ONLY thing that could have been inproved was the wind. Everything else made this the trip of a lifetime for all. FKN awesome

Too many knots behind my shoulder from a 6 hour session learning surface passes and pullups that they pushed in on a nerve. It happened to be 'the funny bone' nerve but instead of getting that pins and needles sensation just at the elbow, I got it all the way from my shoulder to my fingertips! Lesson learned: stretch before and after...a lot easier than a trip to the physio! Also, try tricks both ways!!
Otherwise, cut up feet and 19 sea urchins from walking on the reef up north after getting done on a wave. Lesson learned: dont crash your kite in the waves and ALWAYS wear booties up north even if they suck to wear!

I have been KO’d once, broken my lower fibular and mashed my ankle joint, crushed my bicep, popped my knee snapped my ACL off the bone tore my MCL and my PCL and crushed the cartilage at the back of my knee, dislocated a finger and so many sore ribs, cuts and bruises I have lost count (the list goes on but i have to get back to work) and most of these injuries were in separate occasions. but if i had the choice to have not started kiteing and be injurie free i would do it all again in a heart beat and more

if you dont crash you are not trying

Try pulling your middle 2 fingers apart so much that your knuckle breaks and the skin tears on the top and bottom of your hand.

2 ankle ligaments and a broken fibula.
Got metal in me now cant wait for the airport.

First three years trouble free - few grazes and bruises but not much to speak of.

The past year has really been killing me
broken ankle - 2.5 months
Broken ribs - 1 month
tendonitis in foot - fortnight
sprained ankle - two weeks and counting - but might be back on the water today

It all hurts

Specifically:
both shoulders, several sublaxations each, never managed a proper dislocation. Started out from rugby and snowboarding, but one was from getting hoisted out of the water onto hard sand and landing point of the elbow down and jamming the arm up into the socket

lacerations on feet from nasties under the water

lacerations on whole body due to kitemare kite deathlooping up across the beach and over the short dune scrub and barbed wire fence behind it. I stopped short of the barbed wire by about 10m when the one small shrub I was wearing on my head by then helped me anchor into another one. Two lines on one side then broke, possibly cut on barbed wire, stopping what could have been a much worse day from happening. Was wearing shorty wetsuit so only face, arms and legs were cut up, about 50-60 cuts.

knees FUBAR, old injuries from back in the day, kiting aggravates them. left one hurts when I walk, right one hurts when I stay still, both hurt when I run.

The piece de resistance: soft tissue damage to the groin on a kiteboard fin. The pus and gunk and blood worked its way down between my muscles over a couple of weeks (painful) and ended up in my right nutsack (even more painful) for a couple of months. That's gotta make top ten?

Luckily, I'm indestructable - I've never broken a serious bone (just the little peanut one in the wrist - most pain per gram of any bone)

All I've got for the last 3 weeks is:
- slightly buggered left ankle ligament
- bruised arch, left foot
- skin off left shin
- left big toe nail driven through end of toe
- knees knackered (accumulated injuries, aggravated by kiting)
- right elbow can't sraighten and can't bend far enough to reach my beer
- bruise the size of a football on right thigh
- the neck pain and stiffness seemed to fix itself by crashing on the other side
- and your general muscular pains and strains
(there's probably some internal bleeding - but if you can't see it it doesn't count)

The worst one is the elbow - having to drink left handed is unsettling.
