Hi Guys & Girls,

I’m looking for some feedback…..

We are looking at providing a kiteboarding guide to our local area, South West Victoria (around Warrnambool) just as a post on Seabreeze or something, with maps etc.
The idea is to help the city folk and holiday makers who holiday/road trip down this way with
• local spots (all winds)
• conditions, safety,
• rigging, local guidelines etc.
• Caravan parks close to good spots etc.
Also this may keep our council off our backs throughout the summer. As Unfortunately we are similar to most regional places, with the odd dick rolling into town for a weekender and pissing off the local swimmers, surfers, clubbies and councils.
Let me know what you think.

Cheers

The state associations already have locations guides like this, take a look at KBV's website-
http://www.kbv.org.au/index2.htm

In my experience there's not much that can be done about "the odd dick rolling into town for a weekender and pissing off the local swimmers, surfers, clubbies and councils." Even a friendly chat on the beach doesn't stop some of them kiting right at the end of a runway, for example.

My advice, publish a nice safe spot on KVB to attract guidebook reading tourists, and leave all the sweet secret spots to those in the know or the adventurous types with google maps.

Hi J and others.
This is precisely what the new AKSA/KSA unified website system is all about.
In lay terms what the new board of AKSA has initiated is a central core site which will become the 'new' AKSA site. It is currently running with old content copied across and the beginnings of content being updated on a proxy site when you visit www.aksa.com.au This is the site we have put out a call to the membership for someone with DotNetNuke skills to jump up and help us manage & develop long term.
Under this central site all state KSA's will be able to run their own independent DNN sites with a common data base for online registration of members serving AKSA and independent each state (and shared whenever necessary eg comps etc).
In addition to this we will be able to offer any/all local and regional area groups websites of their own linked into the central system.
It is an awesome concept which reflects exactly the three tier federal system of administration AKSA adopted in Mackay last year. Content sharing bw AKSA<>state & state<>state & including local club sites - such as this concept of location guides - will be just a few clicks away.

Visit the site at www.aksa.com.au or PM or query to info(at)aksa.com.au if anyone wants more details.

What a rip!

That's definitely information that should be available for everyone to contribute to and view free of charge.

We have the same problem over here.
You need to give basic info because "the odd dick rolling into town" can cause a lot of pain in a small town.
speak to AKSA or KBV.

kitebeaches.com has always been my first point of reference when travelling to new places. Its a good resource and if you are interested in putting a guide together for your area, you should list your beaches on the site. The locations are linked into googlemaps/google earth. Put some photos and explanations down, maybe post a link to your own site or to AKSA/KBV as well.

There is no need to reinvent the wheel on this one. The system is already in place! Just make sure the entry for each page lists info. Too many locations are just a spot with no photos and little information.

What we have done with nswkba.com.au is put the locations on google maps and integrated it into our website:

http://nswkba.memberlodge.org/locations/nb

Then each location has the local info. People can send us new locations via google maps and it is easy to update. This would be the system I'd like to see on the new AKSA website and it will be easier to do.

We have also created some PDF maps that can be downloaded and printed, and each season we send these out to the local shops to give out to anyone who wants one. Pete our secretary knows how to create the maps easily, contact him on [email protected] if you want to make a map like the ones on our site.

Cheers

Google Earth version 5.0 has surf / kite spots from Wannasurf under Layers Ocean Ocean Sports. Some capacity to add comments / warnings if you login.
