I was approach by one of the beach inspectors yesterday about the flagged areas they put up to give swimmers a safe area .

He told me that on Wednessday afternoon they had to close the swimming area just downwind of the windsurfers becuase they could not maintain a safe zone because other water users breached the safe zone .

Amongst these were 4 kiters that kited through the swimming area marked out by the flags .

If they can't maintain a safe zone for the swimmers they will be forced to act and restrict other beach activities in the area .

PLEASE DO NOT KITE ANYWHERE NEAR THE FLAGS ,

THEIR ZONE EXTENDS 200M OUT TO SEA
so that people can safely swim beyond the surf break .

ALLOW A MARGIN FOR ERROR .
If you drop your kite that you can relaunch before you get to the flags .

They will be recording as many details as possible of future offenders so that we can help I.D. them .
We will be working with them to prevent a few from banning us all .

It is possible that the offenders are not aware of the rules surronding the flags , if we can all work together to inform everybody we can avoid a ban .

I was wondering how long it was going to take...

I regularly kite down there and have seeen some pretty relaxed attitudes toward the flagged area. I approached one guy the other day and he just said he got caught down wind.

That's not an excuse!!!

Especially now that they are looking out for us, give the ould Red 'n' Yellow zone a wide berth eh'...

I don't like the idea of swapping my kite for a shovel and spade as my toy of choice when I head down to Scab's, so get the word out there so they don't have any excuse to ping anyone at all.

If we don't self-regulate, someone else will do it for us...

Found out a bit more

The beach inspectors have the power to confiscate all gear for up to 3 months and will give a fine .

They would be seen as negligent by the authorities if they did not do this to people who threatened the safety of the swimmers .

It is their job to look after the safety of all beach users and our responsibility to help them and abide by the rules .

Fair call. I wasn't aware of the 200 metres out beyond the flags.
Thanks for the post.

Would the guys on the caution kites who rode straight through the flagged areas and all the swimmers on Sat and then on Sun get a grip and pull there heads in.

The clubbies had the cops on you, besides that you are gonna stuff our access to a place that has been relatively peacefull for the last four years.

They (the clubbies) have the power to confiscate gear and call a prosecution on the offending people. I spoke to one of the clubbies about it yesterday and he clearly said if it continues the council WILLstart to put into place bans and they will prosecute.

We all stuff up and end up in the wrong place from time to time but try limnit the potential for these things to happen stay well and truly out beyond the flagged area PERIOD)

If they are euro visitors they may not understand our rules cause no beach going Aussie could ever say they didnt know it was a swimming area

If they ever catch you I personally hope they well and truly flog ya and throw the book at you, as you deserve because you are your gonna compromise our access

Morons some kiters, especially the touros...all they have to do is ask the locals.......10% of locals seem to be morons too though.

I've afraid to fly a Caution Kite now for fear of persecution....going to have to colour my kite as there are lots of my current brand out there.

Making AKSA tags mandatory with kite locations for people bringing kites to WA could be a start.....but not enough revenue I'm afraid to hire the ranger and police the whole thing.......ummmmm.

Self regulation like now is the best, but how long will it last?
