Hey guys!

I've got a question concerning the kitesurf instructor license. I want to get one in (european)summer, so australian (winter)(;
I'll move to Australia in October.
So I thought I just get it there but then I looked at IKO and they never do instructor school over there, right?
So do you have a national kitesurf organisations that gives you your licenses or how do you do that?

Would be cool if you could help me!

Our season kicks into gear again around that time.

This is a kitesurf instructor's licence valid in many countries around the world, not international licence as previously stated. You can read full details at: http://www.ikointl.com/training-routes.php. Very useful if you travel around the world, and are looking for some part-time work while holidaying. Most schools pay their instructors pretty well as it is a professional service. We have certainly employed many IKO instructors who were travellers. You still need the relevant work permit though. We also had many travellers completed the course with us and became qualified instructors.

We may schedule additional courses in September/October if there is enough interests. Email to be put on maiing list. Airport pick up, accommodation, meals, local transfers all available if required.

Hi Anja,

We run IKO certified courses in Australia. IKO ITC's (International Kiteboarding Organisation, Instructor Training Courses) are the nationally accepted accreditation by most people including most local councils here in Australia.

It IS NOT an "International License", it is merely a diploma to show proof of training. Some countries do not acknowledge IKO certification such as Italy, France, some states in USA, and Great Britain. I think Germany accepts both VDWS and IKO. Some other organisations allow a "cross-over" course to enable you to bridge to the national scheme of whichever country you are in such as the BKSA, PASA etc (exept France of course VVFL ).

It does not automatically guarantee you are allowed to work in this or any other country but it is a real good place to start and pretty much is a must have to work in a legitimate school in Oz.

I will be running a course in October in Perth in my school (AKS). Close enough Dave

"Legitimate?"

Any Surf, Wake, Horseriding, Skydiving, Snorkelling, Windsurfing, Abseiling etc School/Instructor is legitimate. none are illegal unless under government legislation, maybe you should make a better choice of words.

Hi Baldrick,

This definition of Legitimate is what I am refering to :

Legitimate - : accordant with law or with established legal forms and requirements.

A legitimate school is one who has ALL legal permissions and licenses from ALL of the local government departments which may be involved when trading in a public place.

Most of the activities you have listed would be legitimate as they have been around a long time and are higher profile, kitesurfing is still a young sport where there are many people/schools around the country trading without permits, thereby making them illegitimate and dangerous to work for should there be an incident. This, in time will come under control as it did in the hang gliding industry where self regulation cleaned the industry up.

I hope this clears any misunderstanding.

Good winds,
