I was checking my home and contents insurance today and asked the question about whether my kiteing gear was covered outside of my property. Turns out it wasn't but for an extra $20 a month i have now got it covered for theft, damage and loss. The damage and loss does not include use in an organised event but does include recreational use. This also covers anything including computers, phones, jewellery etc so i thought it was a pretty good deal. Has anyone else got this cover.

I have home and contents through Suncorp. I rang them to add on insurance for three kites and boards, I was told no problem and it would cost from memory about $9.50 a month. After losing a set of bar and lines rang them to ask if it may be insured and what the excess was and before I even got right into it was advised that kitesurfing equipment would definitely not be covered and they cancelled the add on and refunded me the money I had paid.

Be careful, if it isn't clearly in writing then don't be too confident about the goods being covered.

^^^ I'm with suncorp too and they are covering me for my gear anywhere in Australia. After I read your post though I think I will check it out a bit further.

Just paid my house insurance so i have my paperwork to hand $3000 worth of kite gear added onto my home insurance (so the kite and board i'm not using and have left in my car) and listed as kitesurfing equipment, an additional $66 per annum including gst and stamp duty.
Thats on a wesfarmer private plan.
oh yeah and covered any where in aus as long as not in use including the car at a public carpark and only $50 excess.
