Hey there !!

I'm Pierluigi from Italy ( Pescara ) ..I'm planning my first solo kitetrip to Western Australia.
I'll be in Perth's area from the 12th of December until the 28/29th ... for the New Year's eve
I'll join a friend of mine ( no kiter ) in Sydney and I'll be there until the 10th of Jan.
Would be nice to meet some fellow kiters in that period.. Do you know some patient kite instructors in that areas ?
For sure I'll have some lessons to improve my skills.. I need to have a "safe and decent" first approach to wave riding..
obviously smaaaaaaal waves

Have a look at my photoblog...

kite-city.blogspot.com/ .. just to complete the introduction ;))

Any advice will be well-accepted ( spots, accomodation, cheap rent-a-car , places to visit, nightlife, girls etc... )

So.. here I am.. I think It's a polite and a different way to say.. Hi people !

I hope to share some good beers after kiting with you

Hi Pier.
Great timing - should be bulk wind for you here in Perth at that time. WAKSA have a downwinder and Xmas party planned just a few days after you arrive. Join up, join in and Im sure you will meet people to kite and party with for your stay here.
Go to www.waksa.org.au for lots of info you will need to plan a successful kite trip in WA.
If you are planning to travel north or south, or both, then Wicked Campers have cool vehicles & great rates. Makes for very cheap accomodation.
Enjoy

Hi Pier
When your on the east coast and looking to ride, come up to Port Macquarie/Foster area if you want to travel a little. Have great flat water and wave spots to kite and can hook you up with some of the locals.
Great time of year to be in Aus, anywhere. Warm weather, water and holiday season.
If your interested, feel free to contact us at X Shore Kiteboarding.

Regards

Thank you for the replies guys ! !

I'm still deciding about my accomodation... just an hostel or hiring a van ? I guess WA isn't like the Brazil.. just on the beach, set up and have a blast.. I guess every day you have to know the "right" spot... or not ?

About hiring a car.. I've found online a company: M2000.. what about it ? do you know it ?

@XSHORE : I'll get in touch with you just on the East coast ;) thank you !

I had a look at the waksa site.. I know I have to join to kitesurf in WA but... what about Sydney's area ? Will I need to pay it again or does it remain valid for the whole Australian territory
I look forward to your reply

Best regards

Pier

Hey Pier,

Nope, Perth in January and Feb should be just like Brazil, pretty much windy and sunny and perfect everywhere.

On the M2000 car Hire thing, they are more main stream and as the man says, Wicked vans would probably suit you better. Then you can cruise, store your gear and crash out in the back wherever you find yourself.

Have fun, Perth is a magic city. I miss it.
Sydney is fun too.

Pier,

You can sleep on or close to some beaches in WA, Perth though has lots of restrictions.

If you want somewhere close to the best spots there's Woodman Point Caravan Park, Fremantle Caravan park, heaps of backpackers in Freo, Cottesloe and Scarborough and then up and down the coast the caravan parks are practically on the beach. Once you get out of Perth it's generally a little easier to find a quiet beach to camp on.

Don't forget to check out Margaret River if you're looking for surf as well as Esperance, Lancelin and Geraldton.

Thank you again guys !

I checked out online some spots and... as I'll stay in WA about 15/18 days..I'm thinking of staying one week at the OLD FIRESTATION HOSTEL's in Fremantle ( just to recover from the flight and to bring confidence with the city ) and of hiring a minivan for the left days heading the north or the south as suggested
What about the hostel and its area (and my plan too ) ?

ahhh... what about the domestic flight to get to Sydney and its allowed baggage ? And.. does is better to buy the airticket from Italy or just when I'll get there ?

Thank you for your kindness

@junglist : thank you for the precious tip !
I'll travel with a normal suitcase and a boardbag (inside 2 kites and my board 136x37) ..... what about it ?

For the International ticket ( Malaysian Airlines ) I have only 20 kg allowed ... ( 1 baggage ) but with 50? I'll be able to carry one more baggage of 20kg. (the dimension doesn't matter !! )

Cheers

Always best if you can to fly via the US rather than thru Asia when travelling to/from the northern hemisphere as the baggage allowance is 2 x 32kg rather than 1 x 20kg!!
The Yanks could not imagine travelling with only 20kg

Your normal suitcase and a board bag will be fine, as long as you dont exceed the total overall weight limit for both items. Virgin are usually pretty good (as their founder is a keen Kite Surfer) I always find that a friendly and positive attitude at the departure gate goes a long way.

Cheers

Finally I bought the ticket from Perth to Sydney.. I found a good fare with Qantas..
I payed 300$ and I spoke to the booking service : they'll charge me only 20$ for the boardbag 140x40. ( with 20 dollar I have 32kg allowed )

just sharing with you a good news ;))

oi PJ have you checked out www.wickedcampers.com.au
they do good vans and have all you will need to not worry about hostels... and as you're coming from Italy and a lovely part of Italy at that. You will have Euro and it goes a long way in Oz.(I was in Pescara early Sept 07) nice place to kite but we have better waves n Oz/Perth/West Coast.

if you don't want to waste money on a hostel i'm all keen to put you up at my place. 30min from beach/woodies, in the hills but still an ok place... and if need be i'll pick you up from the airport, if i am free! my place is only 15mins from the airport...
keep in touch
