I wanna try the 25ktsNNE at Pt Peron at dawn tomorrow, but the synoptic says a front is coming in at 10-11am. Is this a reason to sleep in? (I'm new to reading synoptic charts).

Recon your going to have to set the alarm for real early and see what the wind is doing then.

Does Pt. Peron get clean N wind, with Garden Island as shadow?

What is your smallest kite?

There was a kiting fatality 2-3km east of PP under similar looking conditions a few years back - someone mentioned the synoptic for that day showed 'extreme' weather and he should not have gone out.

Forget the kite size - I just wanna know if a passing front suggest it wont be safe?

Or maybe that loation is really bad for wind gusts from hell in NNE/NNW? Like you say, maybe Garden Island is the culprit?

I dunno. Just dont want to end up dead tomorrow 'cos I didnt ask first.

A front when approaching is ok, its when it hits that you worry.
You see you just never know quite what those black clouds contain. Could be 30kn could be 60kn could be just lots of rain.....options are simple take a chance or head in or dont go out.
How desperate are you?

I just about fell off my chair lauging when I read that, thanks. Everyone in the office thinks I'm nuts.

Was going past 'Thingz' the other day, dropped in and stocked up on glow sticks again .

Ooh nasty. And there I was holding off telling everyone that I saw you out kiting at night a couple of weeks ago. I had even come in because it was too dark and you were still going...

Groper,

i take it you didn't go out this am? I had a flexi day booked for y'day but cancelled it coz the wind was shizen & am spewing I'm working today. Mind you, that spot you referred to would be magic today, but on my 13, I reckon I would be "a bit" overpowered...

Could you please change your avatar Rellie? Wouldn't mind if it popped up with you on the odd occassion, but it comes up so often it is (almost) starting to put me off sex.

Maui was excellent thanks. A real eye opener, in many ways - more to do with the lifestyle and development of the islands though than the kite scene, we also visited Kauai, and Oahu. The big shark experience is one I will never forget, as well as a couple of very close calls with extremely large turtles.
The carnage that happens there is pretty crazy too, people with no idea just launch and go for it. Tried to help one guy who had been down for 30+ mins, he had no idea how to relaunch, it was sheer luck he got the kite back and reached a sandy beach, he was heading for nasty coral and had dragged through the area where I had seen the shark.
The guys teaching at kite beach do it tough too.
I think Maui is a better place for windsurfing than kiting.

Cya and

Goodwinds
