Hey guys,

Did a quick search and didn't find anything so far - but does anyone know anything about Isla Margarita, Venezuela, specifically what kinds of conditions and accommodation one would expect around end-june? I have a wedding there, and understand it's a bit of a mecca in South America, but don't know much by way of how easy it is to get around, to get to kite spots, what kinds of accommodation are in the area close to kite beaches, or the possibility of renting apartments longterm should the wind and weather be nice and I be inclined to stick around.

Anyone have any info about Margarita/El Yaque or would be able to point me in the direction of someone who might?

I went to Margarita a few years ago. I wasn't kiting, only surfing and the waves were small and fun in some area's, but I believe it get's a trade wind in the day that could be fun for kiting. The area is famously dodgy so be careful. You can catch Taxi's around the island and the Lonely Planet should put you in the right direction for Hotels.
I ended up leaving Margarita and heading to Choroni (google it) as it was a much nicer, safer area than Margarita, and has better waves.

Try some Guarapita when you are there, it's the alcohol of choice and well worth it.

Also I hope you are single, as the Venezualan's are supernaturally good looking!

Hi!
I was 10 years ago in V.! Great place!
Try to go to Los Roques. Wind and no waves with 360 smal islands or so!
Cheap beach huts and kind of backpackers.
A friend of mine is from there and is a mad kiter!
Check it out!
Best beer: POLAR always half frozen!!

Was there last year in January. The wind was blowing strong - generally out on a 7 or 9m. Stayed at El Yaque, that's were all the Kite and WindSurf Schools are based. You can get a boat across to the Isla Coche for about $5 and the Los Roques Archipelago is a must - although a bit pricier at about $300/day. Just make sure you take enough US Dollars into the country with you, as ATM's / Credit Cards are useless!

yes, definitly go to Choroni! Was my favorite place to get away from Caracas! There was a great cheap CASA right at the entry of the village! Good resturants and grab a fresh fish from the local fisherman. There is a slightly bigger bay 10min walking but I can't remember wind conditions! Polar Beer still apply's.
