Yesterday, Sunday 28jan07 @ 5pm. No less than 5 jet skiers that were sitting on the beach were asked to drive 300meters to help a stranded windsurfer. All said "Na Mate", even when offered petrol money.
I wonder why everyone bans them from places where people actually respect the water and people using it?.......Anyway I reported it to the Maritime Authority as i believe it is usual for motor craft to help poeple in distress?
Anyone who has any issues with Jet skis on Botany Bay please call Trevor Newman from the Maritime Authority on 0418 460 293. He is on the water and will logde the complaints....Sorry to B*tch on the Forum, but can't think of anyway to get the message accross....

G'day Brett

Sounds like poor form, however they are not all bad. I've been rescued just on dusk several years ago by someone who was obviously of middle eastern appearance and h would not take anything as a reward.
There was a jetskier returning lost boards to Dolls on Australia Day.

They don't need to be banned, and the harbour ban was an overeaction, many legit users of skis have been unfairly penalised.

There are fools on the water, the worst offenders I have witnessed on Botany bay, where I live and make a living have been in power boats.
If you see a water hoon take the rego number and report them for sure.

If you have a need for a rescue on Botany Bay call the Kitepower shop (95296894), either myself n will ( I have a boat) help or I will refer you to the local rescue service. They have a 24 hr phone number which I believe will be posted on www.nswkba.com.au very soon, or I can give it to you (at home at the mo, don't have it handy)

Hm...Interesting way to put things...
I'd have been happy telling the story using the very simple term of "man" to describe that gentleman who helped you out...
Was his skin colour or origins any relevant at all in the story you've told?
As to not wanting a reward for being friendly...
We're not all bad Steve....

I got tangled with another kiter at dolls when out in a southerly recently. A very kind jetski guy saw we were having a few problems and towed us in the 60m to shore.

I know it wasn't far but at the stage he turned up I was exhausted, tangled in lines and just wanted to get to shore as fast as possible with the least effort. We had been self rescuing with one kite whilst I held the other and my board but it was taking forever.

HUGE thanks go out to that guy....he was my saviour that day!

G'day Ben

Maybe you are a bit over sensitive and over protective?
Perhaps I could have omitted the ethnicity of the mans appearance however I didn't. So what, we live with almost all races in this area. Some people assume that all jetskiers who behave badly are certain races and I wanted to make a point.

I was simply, and I thought quite obviously, defending the right of good hearted, well behaved jet skiers to use Botany Bay, just like us kiters do.

Nothing racist, or mean spirited was implied.

Hi Steve,
amazed by how quick you were at replying... I wish I had had similar service when walking into your shop....
I will give you some sort of credit for the "over sensitive"... Yes, may be...
I came to enquire about lessons couple of weeks ago -having looked for getting lessons up north: there wasn't anything available plus there was no wind any way!- and I've been perfectly shocked by the way I've been welcomed in your shop.... I was spoken to like a dog and with more contempt I've ever received in my entire life. May be I know nothing about kitesurfing, but I certainly do know what customer service is supposed to be like... So, yes, did wonder if it had anything to do with my ethnicity!
I've heard about the riots last year... I believe they were down your way... Can't blame me for having had a slight doubt for a moment!
But do not worry, "mate", there's no longer any confusion: I spoke to -thank God FRIENDLY- locals and found out that it was pretty much the treatment given to everybody...
Which got me to wonder how come you sounded so friendly on this site when what I got on the spot was nothing quite like that...
But at least, the message got through: I take it that the way I got treated had nothing to do with my origins....
Any way, my journey here is reaching its end, never got to get on the water, and even though I'd most likely have had a chance to, through your school, I had such a positive feeling when meeting you that it totally put me off!
I hope other visitors will get a chance to leave Sydney with a warmer remember of the kitesurfing middle...
Thanks to all the people who were nice to me down the beaches (north and south), this experience won't affect my opinion on Aussies: great and friendly people! :-)

Still... There's may be a message to take into account here Steve...

Regards

Ben

why are the doofus's like ben on every forum on the internet?
why cant they all meet on just one forum and spread their pathetic rantings there, istead of places like here .... this is a kitesurf forum and a thread about jetski's.
but ben has to make it about race and then poor service in a shop.
pathetic.
as far as I know, Steve provides excellent service, and every kiter I know in sydney rates him highly. even in this thread he offers his boat service to anyone who might need a rescue.

Most jetskis, regardless of their owners, are noisy and intimidating. Add the ability of a jetski to accelerate to high speed and turn on a dime and you have a water craft ,that is very difficult to predict. Even in the hands of expert, they can be dangerous "missiles"

"Most" other water users(who have had proper training) follow certain codes and generally respect other water users.

I must admit, because of many selfish jetski(and powerboat users), i avoid them whenever possible. Some kitesurfers aren't neccessarily rock solid safe either.

I know there are power users who are responsible and display sensible riding while still getting the adrenaline we all crave. Education is the best way forward. Invite the local jetski club to a kite club day or similar. Gain an appreciation for each others sport.

And finally, sour grapes are never good on a website, they can appear and are easily misintepreted. If you have(or think you have) an issue, then its best discussed with the person direct. Random flaming of individuals proves nothing.
