Who's going to KITEJAM in Safety Bay this weekend???

From what i've heard its going to be the BEST Freestyle event of the season here in WA! The Jam format of last years event was wicked and i know they are keeping it the exact same! I've heard rumors of what is going to be setup at the event and i can't wait to see what the organizers have in store!

One thing I'm really looking forward to is the kite swap meet that's going to happen before the event; i've got a few kites that need a new home and i would like to pick up a surf board!

Hope to see you all there!!!

Oh great, that time already for the kite looping brigade to pay a visit is it

Looks like you can leave the 5 and 7m at home this year boys.

Also remember to not forget your shark shields. Because it's his ocean and his environment blah blah blah, we just have to come to terms with it that he/she like the area and has decided to call it home from now on. Well for a few months a year anyway.

i actually wonder if a kitesurfer has ever been attacked by a shark. Most of the time were on top of the water so i guess it would have to be some really bad luck to bail off beside a shark.

Then again, if you fell and cut yourself, body dragging with a blood trail behind you would probably look like a wounded fish trying to get away......scary!!!

in one of the old videos i remember a south african guy got attacked by a shark while riding a downwind race. His board got a big chunk taaken out of the back of it, they later caught the shark, he now has board and shark jaw on his wall.

I am in if my guts have healed. Yesterday I banged a mega loop at Woodmans and tanked the landing on my chest. Driving home I began to fall asleep, pulled over and had to throw up.

The adrenalin wore off and off to Royal Perth I go. The pain was excruciating and I had a tennis ball swelling under my rib cage. Blood, Urine and Xrays came out clear so I am stoked out on pain killers taking it easy.

Fingers crossed I am good for the JAM! Does anyone have an impact vest I can borrow ;)

I've got a Jet Pilot A-10 impact vest you can barrow if needed. It fits perfectly with a harness and does a great job of channeling water around your body when you stack it.

I'll bring it and find ya on saturday morning...

Hey Sci

Not putting a dampner on things, but I did the same thing about three and half weeks ago.

Broke a couple of ribs and they still havn't healed.

Hopefully you just took a beating without any breaks. .

I have an impact vest you can borrow too.

I will bring it down.

On a brighter note, the wind is looking perfect for Sat and I think the Boys at KiteJam are pulling out all the stops to make this event the one to watch freestyle event of the WA season.

Can't wait to see everyone busting out there best tricks as the laid back program really encourages everyone to go off.

See you all there

Hi all,

I guess its no surprise by looking at the forecast for Saturday that KiteJam is on!!

It should be a great day to come down and check it out, not only for the top kiting action on display, but for the Bring n' Buy, the barbeque, refreshments and to view the new Kitelife on the big screen. Plenty of shade, shelter and picnic areas, or a walk out to the point to watch some of the countries best riders cut loose with some great freestyle riding conditions.

Any interest in the bring n' buy out there? Its a new idea thats been suggested and we're keen to try it out. i think it would be great to have a collection of second hand gear all in one easy location to browse through.

Any positive feedback welcome,

see you there!

Just found this info in a recent WAKSA mailout.
Looks like we all better check KITEJAM out.
Great way to spend a Saturday and you can still slip in a session for yourself round at Shoalwater. Another awesome spot.

KITEJAM
Saturday 10th Jan — at 'the Pond' in Rockingham

Definitely a NOT to be missed event.

If you thought Kitejam 08 was good just wait to see what's in store for 09. Same rider based 'jam' program as last years hugely successful format but with extras that are definitely Australian firsts — if not world firsts - for kiting.

Imagine. Big screen display & commentary of the action taken by close-up cameras beamed back to the comfort of the shade and shelter and wind break areas at the event village. Awesome.

Imagine. Getting to see the Australian premiere screening of the biggest kite vid production ever. Yep we have secured a pre-release copy of all four episodes of Fuel TV's KiteLife program. It will be there on the big screen with full surround sound for all to kick back and watch while we wait for the breeze.

Plus there will be a swap & sell area for gear you need, or don't need, or both. Bring along your unused kite 'stuff' to sell or swap or bring along your money to pick up a bargain.

With some of the biggest names from Over East & OS, as well as all our local heroes, you will see freestyle action which really is as-good as it gets — right here on your doorstep.

Registration, Meeting (see below), Kitelife screening and the swap'n'sell will commence at about 11:00am so don't be late.

The action on the water will commence on the riders decision to go.

Looks like yet another early, 25+kt seabreeze !!! — gotta love WA.

Backup date one week hence if needed — but it wont be!!

SAFETY BAY KITERS
11:00 Saturday 10th Jan.

Where — at the Kitejam Village. ie the grassy area adjacent to the road directly opposite 'the pond'

With 2 meetings down a new set of guidelines/rules for kiting and windsurfing in Safety Bay are well into the planning stages. WAKSA needs your feedback to existing proposals; as well as direct input for your ideas to be included; to what will soon be a finalised set of proposals for the DPI — Marine Safety to implement.

If you want a say in how things are to run at your 'local' in the future then NOW is the time. WAKSA will be presenting a full rundown of what has been presented and proposed thus far. It is up to you guys as a local user group to guide the path forward from here. Options are narrowing as each party involved puts forward their considered concerns. A strong and reliable local kite voice is required. It was difficult to pull everything together for a meeting over the festive season but we have had only a few personal replies to our earlier calls. If you want your say it's rapidly becoming a matter of now or never.

So take note pls :- There will be a meeting of all Safety Bay/ Rockingham kiters at 11:00 am at the Kitejam Village (ie roadside opposite the pond).

You do NOT have to be a WAKSA member to be involved. Restrictions will apply to all, so all local or regular users of the Safety Bay &/or Shoalwater kite beaches are welcome to attend.

all i have to say that can resolve the tension between poledancers and kiters is to tell the dancing fairies to stop sittin in the middle of the pond, or to ride in as fast as they can to carve and stop then just sit there and have little tea parties right smack dab in the middle of the pond. its so anoying riding out of the super shallow bit getting ready to load up just to see there are 4 polies sitting in the middle having a tea break and a discussion, FFS if you want to sit around move off onto the beach instead of clogging up the pond, clogging just leads to congestion, and also WATCH WHERE YOU TRY UR SUPER COOL TRICK CALLED A GYBE TO FACEPLANT! on monday i was almost run into 4 times by polies trying to gybe around me when we are both riding to the left, instead of slowing down they try gybe around infront and then plant it meaning i have to send my kite and rapidly change direction, if they did that to a kook the kook will probably end up jumping and or hurting themselves or others.

Apologies Little foot, and anyone else who was expecting the swap-meet, I thought it was a great idea to provide a place at a busy kiteboarding event for the bring n' buy. We were set and ready to accomodate it, but by midday there was no 'bring' so definately no buy opportunities.

Pity, I thought it was a great idea, and looking at the used gear buy and sell pages, (and the amount of quality 2nd hand gear on offer) I thought it would be a popular feature...

It was a new idea, so it could have gone either way, unfortunately it went south!

Also apologies if anyone was misled by the advanced publicity to expect Kitelife on the big screen and live competition footage etc etc... Again we were prepared and ready to provide this, but due to factors beyond my control- we could not provide it on the day.

OK, apologies and negativity over, stay tuned for news and results coming soon!
