DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ABOUT KITING AT SAN DIEGO OR CALIFORNIA? THINKING ABOUT MOVING TO THE STATES BUT IT WOULD NEED TO BE A PLACE WHERE THERE IS WIND AND WAVES. ANY SUGESTIONS?
SD is not a high wind place and you'd need a 18 or 20 meter kite. SC and SF area have good wind and good swell. The next Question is how hot is she and/or how much are they going to pay you. Those are the only reasons I'd move there.
MAN I WOOD JUMP FOR CALIFORNIA! chek out some of the spots the "caution" crew ride at, and corky cullen and the other die hard wave guys. aparently the places they ride are cold and sharkey but i have seen some wicked spots. the other bonus is if it aint windy you can drive up the mountain and snowboard! think its called big bear.
i lived in san francisco for a couple of years post-windsurfing and pre-kiting (read 1995-1997). this is the best place for wind. plenty of options on the bay as well as the coast. places like waddell creek are ledgendary for wind and waves as is the santa cruz area. water is fark'n cold tho!

ps. SF is an awesome place to live. snow (Tahoe) is only 3.5hrs away making it possible to surf, kite and snowboard in one day
Does she kite. Hell even if she doesn't grab on with both hands and don't let go. Pretty sure the Caution guys are around the North end of Cali (SF SC area). The water is very cold your looking at wearing in a 3/3 in summer(or 2/2 if your hard core) and a 5/4/3 in the winter. The new o'nell Mutant is pretty cool, you can interchange hoods and high collars with it. The other thing to look at is the new surfing dry suit from Ocean Rodeo. There's a lot of people that say dry suits are dangerous but the water is cold incase you missed that the first time. I've done a lot of sailing in SF bay and the summer is always nuking awsome winds and lots of places to kite. Good luck with the move.
just got back after a month in california. a few hours north of LA is Pismo beach... not too cold in winter and enough like home to make you feel at home. plenty of wind in SF but always cold. SD is nice but Pismo is nicer.
I was in NorCal a couple of months ago and got to go kiting around San Fran and down the coast a bit too. Was pretty sweet. Very very windy - needed 8 and a 10. The waves were always huge, which was a bit scary for me, but they are different to here - cleaner and more likely barrelling. The water is cold - fat wettie required, and it is sharkey. Went out for a session at Waddell Creek - about an hour south of SF, and it was one of the better locations. I noticed that every second person was on a Caution kite, because the Caution kite people live in Santa Cruz, which is about 25 mins south of Waddell.
I was told that in general the wind gets lighter the further south you go, and people in SoCal are normally on 12's to 16's whereas people in NorCal are on 8s and 10s.
around southern california like the O.C area pretty much everybeach is banned so i would go northern california but its extrememly cold and extremely shark infested. san fransico has good kiting but in summer when all the u.s is warm SF has some weird weather thing and its foggy and cold. For the best kiting in the U.S go to Hawaii or East coast around where Real Kiteboarding has there head quarters (south caralina or florida i think).
