can anyone direct me to the BOM site for wind stats in that area

I dont know what the nearest stations towns would be

Maroochydore is the closest station - latest observations are here: www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65519/IDQ65519.94569.shtml

I think the actual weather station is at the airport which is actually in Marcoola about 10k's north of Maroochydore. The airport is very close to the beach so measurements should be accurate.

I only started kiting after winter last year so can't remember the winds. Before kiting I only surfed where onshore winds aren't good except for generating swell. In summer we have predominantly SE winds in the 15-20knt range sometimes higher. Also some good NE winds.
