Hi

Best bring your own gear. Not many places rent, but check out these links:

www.elementalkiteboarding.com/kitesurfing-kites-hire-perth.html
www.sossurf.com.au/SOS/Home.html

But like spot1 said - its the wild west out there. Nothing between Perth and Coral Bay but beaches. Sounds nice but remember the "nothing" bit. Most people that do these sort of trips will go in convoy with proper off road cars & gear, prepared for everything and anything.

Good luck,

DR

Ha ha ha, I understand coming from Austria why,d ya ask about public transport and renting gear, but there is 1200 km or so between Perth and coral bay, with only probably 1.5 ish million people within this area and even less as you are just on the coast. Hence not feasible for public transport worth using. You could use buses To the main centers and hire a car.

Better to hire a van in Perth. You don't need 4wd unless you are seeking certain places. Plenty of places accessible via 2wd. Bring own gear or sell and buy here, some good retailers in Perth and Gero and even in exmouth. Depends how much money your have. The lack of people and the many beaches is why it is so good. But you will pay for this privilege.

Also when at spots, especially in Perth get local knowledge and abide by the council rules. Don't spoil it for the locals. Kiting is huge here and pressure on the water in mounting. Good luck guys and please take seriously this last paragraph.

Hi Alex,

The W.A. coast is rugged and sparsely populated. I don' think there is anyone who rents kites to take away up the coast in WA. You would be better to bring your own gear. Buying old cheap second hand gear may have maintenance problems and require parts or repair which is difficult to find in the North.

Eppo's right, a 2WD car will be sufficient to get you to most good spots. If you go way off the beaten track you need to remember there can be hundreds of miles without help or medical assistance, so be prepared with good medical kit etc. It's not all lovely safe sandy beaches there is lots of rugged rocky cliffs and sharp reefs.

There is no public transport system but tourist buses do run up and down the coast. I'd suggest hiring a van for such a short visit. Have a look at Wicked Campers or similar and get a van with Airconditioning. At that time of year, the heat and flies up north will be unbelievable. Few people would travel further North than Kalbarri at that time of year due to the heat.

A better trip might even be to explore the coast from Esperance to Geraldton, that's the trip I'd do. Cooler, some great spots and the South Coast is less travelled and less explored with some beautiful spots on offer. If the high pressures stay as far south as they have been thus far, you'll get much better winds along the south coast. Worth looking into as the time gets closer to your trip. WA is expensive so spot1 is right, bring plenty of money, it costs a lot to live here.

Also please heed Eppo's warning to not impose yourself upon the locals. Be courteous, friendly and abide by the rules. If you're not sure ..... ASK!

Enjoy,

DM

Do us all a favour buddy.
When you and your Euro mates come out here to WA respect the rules of every place you go to.
We are all sick and tired of hearing about stupid Euros doing stupid stuff on the water or in areas where you shouldn't kite. Then you all go home and we are left to clean up the mess with the councils and governments.
So if your unsure think about it, ask a local, go to a kite shop and ask the rules of the area then everything will be sweet.
Spread the word to your Euro kite mates and enjoy.
