Sunday AM a guy on yellow/green cabrinha was kiting amongst swimmers On Noosa Main beach between the first and second rock walls. Beach was packed so I went and gave him an earful about safety. He's not a local, and he reckoned he'd asked the coast guard and life-savers and they gave him the all clear to kite there. I had always assumed you couldn't launch and land on this beach?? What are the local rules here? In the end a life-saver on a jetski had a go at him and he packed up.

Must have been a big kite for Sunday morning. The wind was about 10knots NNW. I was camping up the beach about 10kms North of Noosa and the wind was a fair bit offshore.

So light offshore on a crowded beach sounds stupid to me. You were right to have a chat to him.

The wind was NNW 10 knots like you say sunseeker, but sideshore on
this beach. Guy is a big dude with blonde hair, pretty good skill level,
getting some air on the beach with heaps of people downwind of him,
unaware of the danger. Def strutting his stuff!
The kite was a 14 or 16 I'd guess.
Wind was flakey, and in two tacks he went 200 meters downwind (through
all the families swimming in the shallows). After I spoke to him he mumbled
an apology, did the walk of shame, and did the same downwind thing
through all the swimmers again!

Hi guys,

kiting on Main beach is Off limit, We have just had a sneak of the completed code with pics,(not meant to let anyone know that so keep it hush) and its Pretty damn good. You can launch on main beach beside the rock wall of the river mouth, provided their is no beach in river and you make an effort to get into the river straight away. Being a sunday the volunteer lifeguards are working and are not up to speed with what's going on. The council lifeguards certainly would not have given the all clear. So now we can see the importance of this code as it will clarify for everyone where we stand.

This summer has gone without an incident and I spoke to the lifeguards today and they were very happy with kiters behaviour on river and open beaches all summer.

Nice work and well done

In a northerly you can kite in the River Mouth at Noosa - if there is enough wind there should be some locals there - just ask them. If the wind is southerly, just take a 15 min drive South to Sunrise Beach and kite there - just stay far away from the flagged areas and other beach users.
