Seems not all is well in Dongara.

Rumors flying around that the council is enforcing a ban on kiters.

It appeared in the local paper 'The Donger' 10th March

May have been attributed to old guys in budgie smugglers during kitestock.. Not sure though.

Anyone else heard such rumblings??

Just letting you know on behalf of the council that we have NOT enforced any such ban on kiters within the Dongara-Port Denison area. We embrace kitesurfing as part of our culture and as such work hard to support any events that help to showcase the talents of those kitesurfing in the area.

The Council shows this by making contributions to the annual Kitestock event as well as helping with further marketing and event coordination.

We use our local paper, the 'Dongara Denison Local Rag' as a medium to promote this and other events and inform locals of any major decisions of Council that are likely to affect them in some way.

If you hear any rumours such as these swirling around in the future, feel free to contact us at any time and we would be happy to clear anything up.

This reminds me of when that rumor that they were banning kiteing in Augusta due to bystanders being hit by a kite. Im guessing it must be getting busy up that way

I just can't believe anyone on here still takes anything Nob says seriously.

Great call Shire of Irwin. I Wish my Local Government (Joondalup) was a bit more sensible. They heavily restricted Kitesurfing basically on the premise that it is too dangerous. They then spent about $500k putting a skate park across the road from the same beach.
Number of kitesurfing accidents on the beach prior to the ban = 3.
Number of kids injured at skate park in last year = lots (no stats, but I know of at least 1/2 a dozen from the local school who have broken arms, ankles or teeth knocked out)

I don't mind the skate park at all, I just hate the mindless anti kite thing which is not based on any reasonable risk analysis or science.
If councils are all about safety with no regard for enjoyment of life, they should just close the beach completely and be done with them (ohh and shut the local parks where kids play footy and rugby as well and the skate park).
