I always thought that a kite's canopy was made from Dyneema. Aparently I'm wrong and they are made from rip-stop Nylon?

Can anyone confirm this, cos I always thought it needed to be dyneema so that it doesnt stretch when under tension. (dyneema has near zero stretch whereas nylon has sh!t loads)

Polyester not nylon... nylon absorbs water, not good for water-kites.

Typically

Dacron (heavy duty polyester fabric) for leading edge and struts

Rip stop polyester for canopy

Dyneema for the lines

OK cool,

Polyester is actually very similar to dyneema, so good.

I asked this because the 'Mr kitesurf' kite canopy is apparently made from rip-stop Nylon. That prob explains why they are so cheap

Nice soaking wet kite then if you dump it?
Possibly behaves like a b^%$ when wet!

When you're talking about sail/spinnaker cloth you have to consider the particular attributes of the individual product. This stuff is not just raw polyester or nylon, it's doped and fused together, so unlike normal woven fabrics it is impermeable to water and air... when new. Give it lots of friction, creasing, and stretching, you will eventually expose the the fibre... then it becomes susceptible to absorbing moisture. Most good modern cloth will give you a few years of fair service before this will be an issue.

Just how cheap are these Mr Kitesurf kites?

Anyone seen or tried one?

They look as well made as the first Waroos, but with more care to detail and a newer design... didn't Best change their manufacturer/factory about 18 months ago, wonder what those folks are making now.

Been wondering the same thing, if they fly OK, and last a learner a season, have a RELIABLE safety, then hey bring on the competition.

I ran into this problem a while ago... I ended up having to buy material from overseas 'coz I couldn't find a local supplier of rip stop polyester.

Are there any suppliers of the correct canopy material in Oz?
