Hey everyone,

This is more directed at the girls out there kiting regularly and wanting to improve. After a discussion at the Nats with Jess, Shannon and Flick, I have decided to try running Australia's first "kite girls clinic" to improve your riding, trickery and style.

We will focus on posture, style, rigging, and of course trick mastery and tips, Basic Meteorology, understanding basic aerodynamics as it applies to kiting, competition riding for best results, riding hooked/unhooked, best self rescue techniques and much more, plus anything you wish to learn specifically.

It will be a full 6 days of theory and on-water training. It will be my intention to use video cameras to video you individually on the water in conjunction with helmet radios in the afternoons, and then assess, discuss and improve your abilities, style and posture for smoother riding during the mornings using the video on playback.

I was thinking of renting a place which can be used for accomodation, classroom and observing video etc. We would start at 9am and go thru till about 6pm each day. Location will be either Woodies or Lancelin, and don't worry, Tina will probably be there too for a few more extra tips and to help out! We can all throw in to buy food and cook at the Chalet to save money.

This first course will be for the ladies only and if successful I will run a mens/juniors or open course a bit later on.

Eligible participants will be girls riding upwind with basic jumps happening. Age will be open. You will need your own gear. I only want to start off with a small group of say around 6-8 girls so that each person gets individual attention. If the group gets too large it will be too difficult to give enough personal attention. This will make umbers strictly limited so first in best dressed will have to apply. Sorry!

The emphasis will be on fun and improving your riding. Results will be guaranteed! Date will be Monday 28th Feb thru till and including Saturday the 5th of March.

Costs will be calculated when I have a clear indication of numbers.

Just respond to this post AND drop me an email at [email protected]

Great Idea..and congrats on your performance at the Nats.

My daughter would love to go but what about school?

This sort of event is exactly what is required during school holidays. Would it be possible for ES to visit the last 2 sessions only...ie. the Fri. and Sat. sessions?

Anyhow, I think the idea is brilliant and what you plan to show the ladies good too.

Hey again,

The timing of the clinic unfortunately has to be the way it is this time around as I am quitting my full time job to organise this and also two Instructor training courses also in March. This clinic is to gauge the response and need for this type of course and also to allow me to hone the topics and presentation content and format.

If I get good response, I would maybe like to run another course of this type for girls in the school holidays so as some of the younger kiting girls can attend. As for the last couple of days, I am not sure whether it will be worth coming to learn as we will have finished most of the theory and will only have one more afternoon of video to shoot.

But hey, lets see how the numbers go and maybe we could organise a huge kite girls riding day on the last day where all the girls can get together, meet each other and socialise both on and off the water.

I am sure some of WA's top girl riders like Therese, Tina, Jess, Fiona, Flick and Shannon would love to be role models for a day and share the "go girl" spirit and talk to other girls starting out or thinking of getting involved in our great sport. How about it ladies???

Could be a great day. I reckon I might even be able to talk an industry sponsor or two to coming and representing their gear.

The clinic will not be limited to WA girls, however you will obviously need to be in Perth for the clinic, so if you can find your way across and can be here for the dates, sign up!.

I love the response so far, thanks everyone and I look forward to getting it off the ground and addressing you all face to face.

Cheers,

Darren Marshall

Definitely.
It was great for me when Paul was injured cos he spent all his time videoing me kiting, I went through a rapid learning curve. Now he's all healed and back on the water my rate of progression has slowed significantly!

Thanks Ladies,

We need a few more to get the course off the ground. How about it all you kiter girls??

If we cannot get the numbers, I will try and reschedule for a school holiday break if it doesn't clash with the ITC's. Only problem with this is that the wind will start to wane towards the end of March and I want to make sure we get the best possible conditions.

let me know.

best winds,

Darren Marshall

Thanks Chrissy,

That makes 3, just 3 more to get it up and away. C'mon Girls, this should be a pivotal point in your kiting life. Jess mentioned how her overall understanding of some of the IKO ITC topics helped her kiting improve and we will be using many of these same topics.

Once the girls course has been proven successful, there will be more to follow for the guys, juniors perhaps and the ladies in the future, maybe even a winter getaway up north????

Lets get this happening.

Cheers,

Darren

Hey Ladies,

Great News! We now have enough interested kite girls to get the "Kite Chicks Clinic" up and running.

I will finalize all details over the next few days and forward the info on to you all via email and the website.

We have enough space for maybe one or two more, then we will be closing the books until next time, so if you know anyone who may not know about the clinic yet and may be interested in poarticipating in WA's first kite chicks riders clininc, let them know really quick.

Join, Caela, Jess, Chrissy, Jo, Flick and Kathy for a week of fun and riding progress with Tina and I.

See you there!

Darren Marshall

Hey Darren & Tina, would give anything to attend! I am heading East the following week and am trying to find someone to work down in Margies for me for the clinic week. If I am unable to find that person is there any chance I can meet up with you, say Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning for the rest of the clinic???

Let me know...

Trust you are both well!

Hey Michelle,

Of course we are looking for full course commitment and will give priority to the girls who can make the full clinic, but if we are short and you can drop by Wednesday arvie or so that might be OK.

It is fairly likely that the course will be full by the looks of it.

Don't worry, I intend to run more courses on the success of this one so you wont really miss out, might just have to do a later course.

Hope things work out for you.

Regards,

Darren
