Hi
Attempting to learn on a surfboard but have found it tricky to get going without foot straps (towside, not my normal stance whilst surfing).
Considering putting on some footstraps whilst learning and can always remove later, but could like them???
Anyone have any tips or reccommendations

I always waterstart heelside when I'm riding strapless. I usually ride left foot forward, but can ride both ways if I need to. If I have to waterstart on my offside, I usually just waterstart heelside with my right foot forward, or waterstart the wrong direction and immediately gybe to toeside. Switching your feet while riding is tricky to learn, but not so bad once you get it.

if your switching feet from heal side to toe-side try doing it while the kite is on the upstroke. there's less pressure through your feet to the board at that time.

Dude you just need some more time on the water.
It is frustrating the first time but starting both ways is easy once you get used to it.
Put the straps on the board but you only really need them to jump, and they help when your bouncing through white water in the surf and going over sets.
Jibing will take time but that comes too.
Surf boards are cool to ride, the sit higher in the water and the wind will push them back so you dont have to body drag as far. You can use any old board as the shape is not really and issue.
