Check out the Bureau of Meteorology Website, it has some info on cocos. The below link has climate averages for each month (ie temp, wind speed etc)

www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_200284.shtml

Have a good one

Hi Jay,
Lots of wind at that time, but beware, can get quite frontal, and prone to squally conditions when the rain comes through. Having been out in the lagoon in a wonderful 15 -20 knots windsurfing, then to be hit by a 35 knot squall it is a humbling experience. Also quite a strong current to keep an eye on, but as long as you stay with in your on limits should not be a problem.

I've kited at Cocos 3 years in a row. It's flat water sailing, witha bit of side chop as you head further north into the lagoon.
Suggest you take as wide a range of kites as you have.....anticipate anything from too much to to little wind. Also a low wind board (with some nice fins) is very useful so long lazy cruises across the lagoon. Beware of the sand.....even a little graze will always get infected; its very rough and actually hollow, and full of coral bugs. Likewise you are best off wearing booties.

If you need waves to be happy, go somewhere else. There are great breaks, but the good ones are off shore, and the ones you can get to are very dumpy.

I'm off to fiji myself.......more consistant wind, and lots of surf.

thanks guys for the great info i was just wondering if the wind there is thin like bali winds?? i hear bali's 15 knots is more like our 12 knots is that going to be the case there in cocos? also what would be the best allround kite size for me (around 90 kg) as the weight restrictions for the small plane there are tight so i cant exactly take all of my kit.

As per my last posting, there is a large wind range. You could get days in a row of 25 to 30, but more commonly 15 to 25. And it can be pretty sad if you get a week of 10 to 15 unless you've got a fast board.
You may get charged xs luggage if you're over 20kg, but it would be a false economy to restrict your kite sizes. Re your board, they will probably give you this line about not guaranteeing it will get on board. This is largely historical, relating to windsurfers putting their boards on the flights. I have never failed to get 2 kiteboards there.

Jayden,

If you want to you can come in to Pelican Point and pick up a FREE! (WHAT FREE YOU SAY?) CD with video and pics from our various Cocos Clinics over the past 14 years. It has a bit of kiting vision but I am only learning the Video production stuff (in preparation for all my new releases) So don't get too excited.
I'll be there (on Cocos) from 19th July till 13th September so maybe we'll catch up.

Cheers

Ian

Hey Ian

What about a Cocos info evening with slides, videos etc,by Pelpoint, the Cocos' experts. There seem to be a lot of people talking about going this winter.

Just a thought

Big bad Louis

Just checked the cost of airfares and was surpised at how expensive it is - $1680 return from Perth (to the Cocos islands) is a bit rich for me considering I've still got to get to Perth (from Melbourne)Dont bother replying to my post unless somebody knows about some significantly cheaper flights.
PS: my trip to Fiji (Plantation Island)last year was only about $2200 including 12 days accomodation, return flights & transfers.

Guys,

National Jet Systems fly regularly Perth -> Christmas/Cocos Islands. 9479 3210. Packages I saw last week were around 1400/7 days/flights and accom. Now all I need are holidays!

Guys,
you can use frequent flyer ponts and get there for free!
or pay $1100 return which is about what it is in the packages Christmas Island travel put together for us. CI Travel specialise in COcos and Christmas island flights.
Accomodation is wide and varied from cheap and grotty to deluxe bali style (we book the deluxe).
Check out our website and maybe we will have a "slide night" with tea and bisuits!
stay posted!!!!

??????tea and biscuits?????
May I point out that Cocos is a duty free port, and the local watering hole is non profit, so it is THE cheapest place to drink I've ever been too.
Don't drink and gybe........use a bi directional.[}:)]

thanks again guys great stuff i've been at the top of the list for a few weeks now! trip is booked so it's a bit late for FF points to be used but it could be the difference for someone wanting to travel over to cocos. we've pretty much decided to take the 11, 13 and 15 mtr fuels with my mutant and dads chubby i think that should cover all conditions what do you think??
