Just wondering if I am serious about becoming an instructor and getting a job, what are the prospects. I am interested in travelling overseas, and getting off the beaten track.

I would also be willing to work for free to get my foot in the door.

Just as a background I am an intermediate level kiter.

Cheers

Hi Jesse,

Becoming an accredited instructor is a great idea. You'll learn more about the sport than you thought you would, you'll see the sport through different eyes and will get to chase the sun and live on the beach instead of in a flouro lit office.

Getting work isn't that hard, you just need to get the timing right and cast your net wide. There are lots of full time profesional instructors working their way around the world.

What you need to keep in mind is that unless you really dedicate yourself to the job and work in only the top schools, then it's a lifestyle choice. You certainly won't get rich, but you'll more than pay your way and be able to live abroad meeting new people, having a great time. It's all about what you want: Money or Lifestyle.

I chose lifestyle and haven't regretted the last 10 years for a second. I've travelled to some awesome destinations, met great friends, met my wife, kited some of the worlds best spots and conditions, I enjoy what I do and every day I get to hang with some of the coolest people on the planet, the crew at our beach!

I know most people in the industry here in Australia, none of which would have been possible without being an instructor/Examiner and dedicating myself to kitesurfing.

Have fun choosing.

Regards,

KH
