Im sure you will be fine kiting in Adelaide as it sounds like you are used to kiting with the great white shark.

Plenty of those chompers down there.

I guess my question is more around the wind conditions there....is it ok? Is there enough wind (15 knots +) over the summer seasons or should I look at kiting at another spot rather?

I take it a 'sea breeze' is onshore? What is the prevailing wind there?

Im an aussie living in ZA so understand your weather confusion. Im ZA there is no 'seabreeze' like referred to in Aus cause most of south africa is so high (2000m etc), and you get wind from a weather system all summer in cape town.

In Aus in summer - in the southern half, generally a high sits over the continent and does not bring that much wind, however as the day progresses, the sun has heated up all the desert north of adelaide and this has caused the air to rise, therefore creating a atmospheric low, the sea is colder than the land, therefore the cold air from the ocean is sucked inland every afternoon to fill this low. This is what aussies call a sea breeze. and im sure that under some section of this forum it is better explained than i have done above. This wind is therefore very stead, reliable and safe to kite in - and happens for 3-4 months of the year all around the west coast, south coast and east coast of Aus.

Just found this site, wicked its Aus and the graphs are awesome ...New to kitesurfing ... joining SAKSA... fly on land (HQ CF) so not a complete n00b, getting lessons in the interest of safety etc.

Just wondering what the deal is with Adelaide beaches atm, bans etc, lots of the info i have found is old.. and the scene, many young people? (im 18 ) .. friendly crew etc? Have been to sit and watch many a time in the past but never actually spoke to anyone

In the next month (assuming all goes well) if you see a bright green boxer SLE with some dude who seemingly doesnt have a board, body dragging his ass around, relaunching and self rescuing .. thats me being disciplined in getting basics down.. board will be at home haha

you can kite adelaides metro beaches through the year, and as long as you dont mind the cold water winter has no shortage of wind, although perhaps not as consistant as the summer seabreezes.
Popular metro spots are Henley Beach, Semaphore Beach, and Largs Beach, although there are restrictions on parts of Semaphore and largs beaches.
Other beaches such as Aldinga, Nourlunga, Goolwa, and Kent Reserve are a short drive south, and open to a lot more swell if you are looking for some wave action. check out kitebeaches.com and do a search for SE australian beaches for some pics and info.

how many ppl kite in Adelaide. exactly?

I took a tram to Glenelg on Sunday when the wind was about -50.c and 25+ knots. Expected to see kites up and down the coast. None. Where are you folks hiding?
