Hey just wondering if anyone knows of any deals goin for kiteboard lessons in nsw or any week camps or something. Some mates of mine are interested in getting into the sport and i could go for another lesson or too myself but as students we're all on the budget haha.

A caution for you....please make sure that you don't take your kite out with fellow learners after having only a couple of lessions. Always be with some one experienced in the early days.

Example...last weekend my sister and I had packed up and were about to leave after a good session in NE 20kts - a bit gusty. A couple rigged up and took their kites across the sand bar. It wasn't until she was about to launch her boyfriend's kite that they mentioned to another kiter nearby (with some experience thank heavens) that they had just bought their kites after having only 2 lessons. She hot launched him before he had hooked in and he got SLAMMED and draggd across the sand bar to heavens knows where if the other kiter hadn't been there. They did not realise how nasty kites can become in inexperienced hands. We had to call an ambulance to take him to the local hospital. He had been knocked and out and didn't have a clue what had happened.

If they had rigged up 15 minutes later there would have been no-one there to release his kite or assist them in any way.

No helmets, no experience, gusty winds - bad combination.

That was the third time since I began kiting that I've seen kiters taken off in ambulances. Even though 2 of those were experienced kiters, none had helmets on - all had been knocked out.

I hope last weekend's kiter is OK.

I've had 3 lessons so far myself and been kiting with a uni friend who's been doing it for years so he's been giving me great tips and he's been pointing out my mistakes.

I've watched the effects of jumping head first after a lesson or two. Seemed to be a similar situation, a couple who just bought some gear after an initial lesson. They were struggling to put together the kite and launched it directly downwind instead of to the side and to top it off he wasn't hooked in properly so he got dragged along the sand for a while before he let go leaving his kite to fly off without him.

Def agree that its wise to find someone who knows what theyre doing to go out with you :P
