To the kiter who was out yesterday (Sunday)afternoon on Botany Bay

Please be aware that kiting is NOT allowed past the Novotel hotel. (BAY ST)

Self imposed Ban due to the proximity to the Airport

You will risk kiting for all of us who use Botany Bay for kiting.

Whilst out Saturday and Sunday, I noticed some kiters who were using the Northern side of Bay st as a launch and kiting point. I launched at the first carpark on the Grand PDE (Yellow kite) and kited up to the baths adjacent to the coffee shops to request the coast guard to intervene and advise the kiter of his failure to adhere to the rules. The three gentleman on board Shrugged their shoulders and advised me that this was not their jurisdiction. Funny thing is I have seen them warn Jet Skiers for breaking the rules ??? They were going to do nothing so I requested them to contact the water police on our behalf.
They mumbled something but no action was taken.

I waited in the area for the kiter to approach me and waved him down.
I advised him that there was a kiting ban and exclusion zone for kiting close to the airport. He advised that he was unaware of the situation. I landed my kite and walked back to the carpark as winds were dying. I noticed that he too heeded my advice and did the same. (Props to him)

On Saturday there were two kiters. So this message serves as a warning to all kiters bound for Botany Bay. Please be aware of this rule to ensure that kiting is available for all.

Thank you.

Thanks Hurrah for trying to approach the kiter(s), I wish more people followed your example.

For everyone.....If you're going to kite around the Botany or Northern Beaches areas please check out the NSWKBA website for maps of kiting locations/wind directions/any restrictions which you can print. Hardcopies of the Botany area are available at Kitepower in Sans Sousi.

Right on man and while you're at it could you have a chat with that geezer who rides the Eclipse kites at the first groyne. He is one heck of a menace. Needs to take a few safety lessons like not self launching up wind of families and puting his kite into accidental kiteloops because he doesn't know what he is doing and nearly decapitating beachgoers in the process. Yeh move this dude on for sure. Keep up the good work Hurrah.
