In keeping with the tradition of last season (when I was off with injury) I intend to keep up the kite photography some of the time (when I'm not kiting myself that is)
This time I've got a surf ski, and I think it would be great to get some shots with the beach in the background for a perspective not often seen in kite photos. It also gets the sun behind the camera at dusk (in Perth) which turns crap lighting into awesome lighting, but what do you think about a surf ski in the mix with kites?

No probs. A bright orange surf ski is big and visible and might be even handy to have around to assist in a rescue one day.

OK, but enter and leave upwind and keep away from the shore where it could get in the way of launchings, landings, turns etc

No way, surf skis are a menace to kiters, regardless of intentions.
