In keeping with the tradition of last season (when I was off with injury) I intend to keep up the kite photography some of the time (when I'm not kiting myself that is)

This time I've got a surf ski, and I think it would be great to get some shots with the beach in the background for a perspective not often seen in kite photos. It also gets the sun behind the camera at dusk (in Perth) which turns crap lighting into awesome lighting, but what do you think about a surf ski in the mix with kites?

No probs. A bright orange surf ski is big and visible and might be even handy to have around to assist in a rescue one day.

OK, but enter and leave upwind and keep away from the shore where it could get in the way of launchings, landings, turns etc

No way, surf skis are a menace to kiters, regardless of intentions.

i reckon you might have trouble paddling a goatboat into any wind strong enough to have a good kiting session in. and it could be a struggle to keep the thing still and in one spot long enough for good photos.
only one way to find out though....

absolutely fine*... if you take photos of me and dont put copyright logos on it b4 giving it to me
from the topic name i thought you were going to use the kite with the paddle ski.
sorry to agree but paddling in a 20 knot wind is hard enough and thats an average seabreeze.

Yeah, good point about the wind (slaps self) but I'll give it a shot.

kitecrazzzy - no worries. I'll be easy enough to spot so just ask. Anything I take that's any good will end up on seabreeze anyway.

Just don't ask to jump over me for a pic

I'm collecting my iced coffee cartons to win a jet ski.

Increase your stability at rest while taking photos by hanging your legs over each side of the ski. Drops the centre of gravity and prevents "roll overs" while holding the camera.

Thanks
So far I've found that a bit of forward momentum is enough to maintain stability for a photo, but I haven't tried the shark fishing method yet.

Where you planning on taking the photos G-Dog. If its woodies you dont need a surf ski because of the beach direction and a ski would just conjest it I reckon. Other places theres some definate value because it removes the glare.

I might follow a downwinder, or wherever during the season, kitestock etc. I agree with you on Woodies, but I can use the point itself anyway.
