Hey fellows, just wondering if i am the only one getting sick of the argument about kites taking all the beach and requiring heaps of space.

It is all about kite control, knowing what to do and move the kite up, i don't believe that i use any more space than a windsurfer.

I had some cross over at Brighton with 2 blokes going out and one coming in over a 15 metres stretch without any issues and i have even been known to high five my mate while crossing each over 's path without choping his head off!!!

Fair enough we take more room on launch but we can take turn over a small space.

I understand the fear of an out of control newby (was there not so long ago) but i strongly believe that with a bit of self control and common sense, we can all share the breaks without any dramas.

I agree aswell, Ive kited areas where there are 10 to 15 kites and windsurfers using the same area of beach without any problems, learn to feel where your kite is at all times without looking at it. Be extra aware when beginners are around and all is good,

All well and good when you park n ride, but underpowered sine curves become unpredictable and take up loads of air space.

How can you say you use as little room as a poley. Nuts.

Yea, talk about poleys.

I noticed on Sunday at Brighton that the Poley's leave their gear on the shore line with one wopping great fin sticking up ready to disembowel any kiter who sees his arse.

Maybe we should start whining in their forum.

Cheers

There doesn't need to be a protracted debate on this, a kite takes up a lot more room. That is a non- issue. I personally don't believe a significant number of kiters can co-habit with poleys. It just doesn't work. I've windsurfed with 40 guys out and yeah it's busy, but manageable. I've also w/surfed with 7 guys out and 4 kiters and it's been much worse. I do think segregation is the answer, seperate sailing spots. I was out at Seal Island on Sunday and there were 3 kiters out there and it was a complete nightmare. There's only a small section where you can ride and jump and with 2 of the 3 kiters having no clue it was a complete pain in the ar$e. So few people shouldn't have such a negative impact. 2/3 kiters is nothing. What if there were 10 guys out? The place would be unsailable. I sailed Scabs y'day and that was great, Kiters upwind, poleys downwind, everyone happy and thats really what I feel the solution is. It's a bit sad cos I like sharing the water with Kiters. Last year, we had a couple of regulars out at SI and they were fine. Stayed a little bit downwind, didn't get in anyones way and it was great. The tuggers on Sunday were clueless and it worries me that more are on the way.

I was saying in a previous thread that it's great what the WAKSA are doing and the effort they're putting in, trying to enhance k/bs reputation. They obviously recognise there is an issue, but the maverick kiters out there with the bad attitudes are undermining what WAKSA are trying to do. And it's a shame.

The situation depends on the attitudes and ability of those present.

It's never going to work if narrow mindedness overules common sense.

A demo day put on by one of the shops in Adelaide was held on Lake Bonney in Barmera a few weeks ago. On the friday night there must have been 10 or so kites and half a dozen windsurfers all sailing from the same 100m stretch of beach in more or less the same direction. Everyone got on great, no incidents, and no attitude, on anyside of the so called fence. There were also people of varying skill level present representing both disciplines. Still no problem. In fact the whole weekend was great, with no animosity at all. In fact, quite the opposite.

A lot of people complain too much. That's half the problem i reckon.
