I would appreciate some thoughts on whether I should go to Kitestock or my (kitesurfing) friend's wedding in Dunsborough.

Things to consider:
1) He knew kitestock was on early Feb before choosing a date
2) His whole wedding party and half his friends are kiters and had all but penned in that weekend for kitestock.

possible outcomes - change the date of the wedding, go straight to kitestock and not wedding, leave for kitestock after ceremony, or get absolutely rediculously drunk and try and forget about kitestock until 2010.

Whatever happens there will be quite a few unhappy kiters at his bucks party, which should make for a pretty interesting day.

Move the wedding to Dongara?

Seriously though, how many people are going to the wedding, and how much effort would it take to move it by a weekend? If I was planning to attend a wedding in early February I guarantee I don't have any plans made six months beforehand for the weekends either side of it.

Unfortunately I don't think moving location would be a consideration with quite a few people coming from overseas with accomodation booked and deposits paid.

It would truly be a grand weekend if they got married in Dongara on the Kitestock weekend - then we could make him kite in a pink dress for his bucks party as well.

Hey Dylsa,

Gees mate, thats a "no brainer!"

If you really want to go to a wedding, almost every church in the country has one every Saturday, just choose your denomination and away you go

Kitestock is on only once a year! Your mate, if he really is a mate, will respect your devotion to the sport by you attending Kitestock in his absence and will probably applaud and commend you for bringing back some Dongara trinkets like a stubby holder and loads of photos of the most excellent fun you'll have.

Weddings are over in an hour, Kitestock goes for 4 days!

You may even be the winner of a brand new kite or board! He'll get over it, his missus won't but hey, if you have a new kite, who cares? [}:)]

Good winds,

Several very good points there Kitehard, Cheers. it is 4 days of mad fun.

And if you take into account current divorce rates there's a pretty good chance this won't be his last wedding. Just joking Sh**o

If you turn down your mates wedding and come to kitestock that deserves a prize catagory all of it's own and I will personally get up on stage and give you a $140.00 bottle of Angostura Premium Rum my freind.

You would have to have the biggest bulls^*t story to get out of that one and go kiting for 4 days. I like it though. Start thinking and it's there for you if you come.

Cheers

Gees that would be the nail in the coffin of your mates wedding for me. Maybe if you can organise with Specimen to get the rum before you go, you'll have an excuse for not doing the wedding

You blokes are cold, harsh ..... and funny! LOL

I love this thread, someone will get in to trouble me thinks!

Lets face it - you are going to spend half the wedding thinking how windy it is, and what a ball your other mates are having at kitestock.... so you are going to be there half heartedly , which is really not fair on your mate.. it would be like s.ex with your girlfriend whist thinking of another girl.
Tell him you cant come - and be done with it.

Perhaps you mate is trying to reduce the number of people coming to his wedding?
You could save him a wad of cash by simply not going....
I am sure you could come up with 100 more quite logical (to you) reasons why he has made it that weekend , intentionally to exclude you and some others...

If you really feel you have to go because you will feel too guilty. Make sure you drink the bar empty to help you forget about the wind.....

Ahhh ** Specimen, as if the case to go wasn't strong enough already with new borads and kites being thrown around, $140 rum prize for the new category is a real tough one to turn down. DAMN!

The date has been set, but invites aren't out yet so he may not send one now.

Happy Days!

Yeah Good call Bigmark - got to go all in one way or the other. don't want to do things by halves.

So it will be either - drink the bar dry and tear the dance floot to bits or crazy unhooked madness at kitestock with a bottle of rum and then tear the dance floor to bits at night.

It gets worse people - my best man lives in Dongara... and kites...

Thought I had it sooooo sussed with the wedding on the 6th and Kitestock the following weekend as a honeymoon...

Boy did that one backfire.

In a big way.

Bugger.

Sorry.

This really is a no brainer
Get your mate mindless on his bucks party chain him up in the mini van and drive to kite stock get a lot of photos with him and 1 of his mate from overseas who will never come back over to OZ so he takes the blame from the wife to be.

Tell your so called 'Mate' who would have you wear a suit in the hot month & miss the big K ...

To pay for some 'hot hoes ' for the bucks night

All will be forgiven everybodies happy compulsory tequila racing so no one will remember anything

The adrenalin rush or fear, of the hidden truth between friends will make you forget about the big K

Kiss - keep it simple stupid

Dylsa my young friend, you have forgot to mention there are three of us in that guy's wedding party. And you know I enjoy a good bottle of rum and a stiff summer breeze, don't stiff us both, hang out for a better offer.

Good point wise Baa Baa,

Let's hold out to see if there are any more prizes thrown up for the new category. I would like to see you drinking rum off the floor, Probably not tasty rum like the Angostura though.

Hi guys
I know that its going to be sold out soon like last year but I don't think its the right way to keep all the information secret.
there is no news or schedule events on kitestock.com website
we always know about it when we read the seabreeze news "kitestock 2008 SOLD OUT"

Well it was in the WAKSA mailout last week, I'd hardly call that secret. I do believe it's what prompted this thread. Also in the mailout was a mention that the website development is underway...

C'mon guys - we all know he can't change the date or even suggest it - it will destroy all chances of him kiting with you in the future. He's only getting married once, there will be more kitestock in the future...

... he will owe you though. What's worse - missing kitestock once or having a mate that can't kite ever again?

WAKSA forwarded a mailout last week to all current members with several items of news including the dates for kitestock.
In the ongoing program to continually improve 'all-things-waksa', the new web-team has moved the website to a new server to allow for the building of a new site. The move may have caused some glitches? If you are a waksa member and did not receive the mailout last week please let us know by email to [email protected]. A copy of the mailout has also been posted as a news article. See: http://waksa.org.au.86.aspwebhosting.com.au/news_list.aspx

NB: We have temporarily closed the web based online waksa membership renewal. The new member renewal process will be activated on our new site well before the Oct. 1st start up date.
Kitestock registrations will not be open until late Nov. or Dec. Members will be kept informed via mailouts.
