Hi, I have a contract in Brisbane next year and am wondering if there is any place to kitesurf around the cbd in Brisbane, the river looks quite large.

Thanks in advance

Ive never heard of anyone kiting the river, though it may be possible in parts. Theres some stretches of river that are very wide and Ive seen people sailing in them quite often. Keep in mind that even if you get good wind there is lots of traffic - commercial boats and leisure craft, and some bloody big ones at that.

If you find somewhere suitable let us know... otherwise you'll need to head to wellington point on the southside or sandgate on the northside (about 1/2-3/4 hour out of CBD).

I'm live for the last 10 months in Brisbane.
I also wonder why no one kitesurf in the river?
I thought maybe there is a regulation that prohibit that??

Anyway, I run few times a week along the river to both sides, from CBD to New Farm/Tenerife and also to Toowoong.
I think that there are some places with easy approach to the river and relatively low traffic around New Farm park. The place gets winds (is not sheltered), the river is very wide (few hundreds meters), and it's close to the last CityCat station.

On the other side, I saw some jellyfish the other day and heared that there could be sharks too... Don't know if the shark thing is real.

Any other locals with more information?

yes there are sharks in the rivers (primarily bull sharks). Though i spent four or so years wakeboarding in the brisbane and logan rivers and never saw a single one.

the jellies (the big blue ones, right?) are pretty harmless - they might give you an itchie rash, but bearable.
