I used to fly in and out of Karratha from May to August.
That time of year plenty of wind, average 20-25 knot easterlys. Heaps of salt lakes to go kiting on but not sure what Dampier salt would say about that.
There arn;t many beaches up there, mostly mangrove along the coast. Not really far enough north for crocs either.

This time of year: probably no wind unless you get a cyclone. Then you can go kiting with your hat.

hi Brett
there are a few spots to kite south of dampier - about 30mins away i think.
or if u have a boat u can go out to the islands.
just have to pick yer location carefully as there are wind shadows from the other islands.
please note - there are LOTS of sharks in this area.
they should be pretty well fed from the abundant fish - but i would recommend staying out of the water if u have any bleeding cuts.

kite size - well there is heaps of wind so a 9 or 11 should be fine depending on yer weight and board size.

u cant kite the salt lakes - even tho they look enticing.

There is so much open water u will be sure to find somewhere interesting.
There is a few boys kite up there already.

good luck

Hmmm, sounds really inviting. I think you you should stay in windy Whyalla.
Lots of wind, no salt lakes and no sharks.
