MEDIA RELEASE

KITEPOWER TO ADVISE RIO 2016 ORGANISING COMMITTEE

An Australian kite retailer has been named principal advisor for the new sport of Kiteboarding for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero.

Steve McCormack, founder of Kitepower stores, will lead the advisory team, comprising a hand-picked selection of international experts. This is the first time Kiteboarding will be represented in the Summer Olympic Games.

Speaking from Sydney, McCormack said, “I am thrilled to be involved in the evolution of this dynamic sport. Kiteboarding’s inclusion on the world stage is long overdue and this will put it on par with snowboarding and tae kwon do.”

McCormack says he was not surprised to be chosen as principal advisor. “I was not surprised to be chosen as principal advisor. As the founder of the leading kite retailer in this country, what I have done for the sport is unparalleled. Not that it’s a case of ‘who’s the best’, but the fact of the matter is that at the end of the day, Kitepower is. We are. We all are.”

The search is now on, adds McCormack, for suitable candidates for his home-base advisory panel. Kitepower stores in Sydney, Geelong and Brisbane are looking for nine kiteboarding enthusiasts who can volunteer their time to discuss the unique challenges facing competitive kiteboarding. Volunteers will be rewarded with an all-expenses-paid trip to Brazil including accommodation, food and drink, and a kite and board allowance.

Those who are interested should contact [email protected].

“I don’t pretend to know it all,” says McCormack, “but I’m well aware that many of my customers do, so I’m inviting them to help me help the Rio 2016 Olympic Organizing Committee put on the best show the Olympics has seen since Greco-Roman wrestlers put clothes on.”

I think that's the best thing you've ever said
(are you implying that many of your customers pretend to know it all?)

I may not agree with the Olympic thing, but good luck to you. Sounds like a great opportunity.

Hmm ok...
Does kiting really want all that exposure?

On the other hand, would it make it harder for the councils to ban a OLYMPIC sport lol

Steve, you must be kidding. I hope this is just some publicity for your stores, or do you really want to f##k up the sport for good?

IS IT LONELY UP THERE ON YOUR PEDESTAL STEVE ? or Just the April 1st winds boring you this morning.

ok just kidding mate. I do think you would probably be the right man for the job as far as Aussie experience goes, but I gotta agree with the others about too much exposure. I love the sport being unique, seeing kiteboarding becoming mainstream will be the death of the sport.

hmmm not that far from reality (except for them asking Steve LOL )
Now that AKSA is officially IKA (International Kite Assoc) which is ISAF (International Sailing Federation) we are an official sailing class for world competition.TBA
The olympics is a real and planned part of our future.
(Probably speed stuff though - no dangly power moves or wavey stuff)

pssst Steve - try a different login next year. I think they're onto you

Your all dreamers if you think you are going to be able to keep kite surfing all to yourself. You havent seen the start of it yet. Do you think that people arent watching the sport and saying i would love to do that. Look how many lessons there are every week with new people coming to try it. Maby if it is an olympic sport the councils will have to take notice and see they can stop it. Its growing at a great rate of knots.
