G'day,
Does anyone know what conditions are like for kitesurfing around Mackay region from December to March? Do the humid/wet conditions produce any decent wind?

Beginner on a 16m Peter Lynn

Cheers
Daniel

I'm not sure about kitesurfing conditions but was talking to a friend only last night who is moving to Mackay and from what she told me your big problem will be jelly fish and crocodile infested water over the summer months.

Yeah I live in mackay and just started kite surfing about 3 months ago. Winds are pretty good in summer 18 to 25 knots. I have a 13m waroo. Town beach and bucasia is good lots of shallow water to ride on. I would recomand getting a stinger suit too lots and lots of stingers.

Check out the link below.

Waasaby,

Good to hear summer is a goer.

I am thinkning about changing to an SLE, how have you been going on the Waroo?

I live down near Hay Point and have been kiting for about 3 months too. Hard to find flat water down here (only on a Northerly). Have just started getting up and going in both directions (in flat water).

Have got the bug for it now...

Love Kitesurfin, I try and get on the water when I get the chance. Im still having trouble getting up on the board. Some days i go good and then others not so good. Lots of flat water here specially when its not a full moon. Yeah my waroo has been alright it does the job i supose i have not ridin with any other kite so cant really compare.

Hey guys,

If you have any questions on where to ride in Mackay, please give us a call at the shop. There are heaps of new Kiteboarders moving to the area and are missing out on all the right places to ride in the different wind directions.

If you go to the beach and no one is riding, probably means you are at the wrong place to suit the wind or tide that day.

Thanks
Joe

One other thing too there is a heap of sea weed stuff in the water at the moment and being a beginner I crash my kite from time to time. As soon as it hits your lines its a pain in the arse to get it sorted. Usually weighs the kite down so you have to land it where it is and then its gets all through your lines and spend 2 hours sorting it out. Pisses me right off.

Hey joe where are the main spots they go when the tide is out, besides east point? and also for the northerly wind?

Hey mate,

In a Northerly, head to Blacks beach at Low tide and Bucasia beach in front of the caravan park at high tide. NNW head to Shoal point for some crazy flat water, but I have seen crocs down the Reliance creek end so keep your eyes eiether wide open or shut all together.

Not looking too good for sunday or monday forecast wise. It's hard here as the BOM forecast is pretty general, and Buoy weather changes every day. Not much happening on the weather chart. It seems to come and go here pretty quickly unless there's a big system around.

Daniel - mate I'd highly recommend you get a lesson with a sle kite before buying anything it will be money well spent. I'm not keen on those peter lyns have flown a couple so far and not really enjoyed it! One thing I'll give them is the safety aspect but hell the best kiters in the world fly pump ups - we've got a pretty wide beach at Hay Point. Sle's are awesome and I can't stop raving about my 12 07 boxer.

Cheers

Hey Glenno,
Yeah I need to have a go on a pump up so I know what I prefer. My Peter Lunn has been great so far but I am curious.
Later
Dan.

yes Aron Jarmons (3 time oz wave champ) main reason for using PL in comps is the safety factor .(Pss i ride PL sometimes and LEis sometimes and yes SLE's are awesome )
