Thinking of a trip to Bali end of this month for some kitesurfing. Has anyone been there recently? Any good advice on where to stay that close to the kiting action or what size of kite to take with me? I am 63kg rider.

Cheers,
Yuan

Got back from Bali 3 weeks ago (end of June) Had two lots of 6 days with 13-18 knots all day every day at Sanur. Much better than during the low-key comp at the same time a year earlier. At 76kg two of us were using 13m Guerilla Arcs with 12-16m kites being average. Only about 4 kites on the water at any one time most days.
My personal suggestion (just for starters) is to catch a cab from the airport to "Ari Putri Hotel" which is 50m north of the Sanur Beach Hotel at Sanur. Cab will cost about $9. The hotel will cost around $30 a double including cable TV, pool, A/C, breakfast, fridge etc.

Right next to the entrance to Sanur Beach Hotel is the Trophy Pub (best on Friday nights) and Trophy Lane which goes 100m to the beach. Go to beach, walk right (south) 200m to the Blue Oasis Beach Club. Check out the tides and wind there. Mario will help where possible. You will get charged a small daily fee for using the beach and facilities, say $8, but you get to leave your gear there, wash up, etc etc...... up to you.

Also in Trophy Lane are 3 more hotels but only two may be slightly cheaper but still only 50 m closer than the first one I mentioned.

A cab to Kuta-Legian-Seminyak will cost $7 (always use the meter!!)
Mario will help you with best locations for kitesurfing at Canggu north of Legian.

You will probably prefer to use booties due to coral underfoot.

For freedom get an International license from the local RAC before you go (2 photos and about $20) and rent a little Suzuki for about $16 a day.

If going as a couple you can budget on $50 per head per day for hotel,food,booze,car,T-shirts etc If you spend more than that then you've got too much money!!!

Have fun !!!!!!! :))

all the best
