The family and I are heading up to Coral bay for a much deserved camping holiday. While I was up there I was hoping to do a bit of kiting.
Has anyone got any info about the area that they could pass onto me please. Thanks.

Kiting in Coral Bay itself is not allowed by DEC - too many tourists snorkelling....best to head a bit out of town to Maud's Landing - a few k's north to kite there.

There is a spot south of Coral Bay (I think) but don't know it myself.

The old DEC guy in his little hut specifically warned me off kiting in skeleton bay when I asked.

I will check over christmas. I remember you said that in another post.
I think It was put it down to him thinking you were another nutter from the south or something

just got back from a week down there and didn't get out once. Never got to catch any one in the DEC office but walked down to skelley bay and there is a sign showing where to launch your kite or windsurfer but nothing else. I presume your supposed to stay upwind of the sign outside the oyster rocks. Did a few trips to 5 finger reef to the south and the lagoon to the north but didn't find anything overly flat and Mauds is the choppiest out of the lot. I did have a laugh with a few of our mates in blue after pulling them out of a bog on the way to 5 fingers. They had the ass end of the troopie down to the sand with a set of pathetic little max trax under the front tyres while digging (with their hands)sand away from the chassis. After dragging them out of the way I found they had full pressure in the skinny tyres (there is a sign asking everyone to let their tyres down at the start of the track) and hadn't locked their hubs in (to be fair I think they had unlocked the hubs when they reached the sand tracks not realising they were already locked)
ps. anyone know where you can get a sticker for my ute saying police recovery vehicle
