Also we wanna hire a campervan..advice on what van to hire and from which company? wicked? + any other helpful advice would be much appreciated.. Thanks in advance!!

While shark bay has some good kiting spots they are not great. They rely on tides in most spots and if they dont then the stone fish become an issue. If your only on the road for that long, you'd be better off mising it and going straight on up to Exmouth.
Coral Bay is a great town, but the CALM guys aren't too happy with kiters there obviouslly.
The two easiest locations to get to in Exmouth are great, Graveyards for waves and Sandy Bay for flat water. There are alot of Turtles at Graveyards (mating season) so in the interest of keeping the area open, try to stay up the north end of the bay. (though there is no proof of kiters interupting them, CALM is pretty protective of the turtles ofcourse). Cant really comment on anywhere else, but Someone else on here will have abit to say.

Though I haven't hired a camper before, when i went up, the WICKED campers were great for meeting other travelers. (If you see a wikid Van, you know for sure its a cruisy traveler. the posh ones are all full of rich families and old folk.)

Hahaha, Wicked campers. The W on the front looks like a D. [}:)]

Exmouth/Coral bay is a worthwhile trip, but not necessarily the best for kiting. Do some snorkelling/diving then head back doen the coast top shark bay (flat water HEAVEN) then all the spots south of Kalbarri - Gregory, Coronation Beach, Gero, Dongara. Takes yer pick, and if you dont like the spot, move on...

ive been up to shark bay the last two Christmas breaks for a week.
When theres wind - its awesome - very consistent, and the main beach from the town is flat and shallowish (waist height) for about 150 meters out. the wind usually comes in at the right angle that you can cruise up / down the beach (ie onshore angle).
did i mention it was farkin hot?

of course theres always a chance that it gets too hot, and the wind dies - leaving you with not much to do - except go 4wding and fishing - damn.

i didnt see a stonefish the times i was there - even in the lagoon that looks a lot nicer to kite than it actually is.. Theres signs up all over that lagoon about the stonefish, so we purposely went snorkelling to see how many there were: zero.

Not saying that they werent somewhere else in the lagoon, but we went from one side to the other and saw nothing of interest.

Have always wanted to kite exmouth, but will be flying there if i do.

check out carnavon as well, water doesnt look that nice but is pretty flat and ppl are nice.
forget wicked camper... everyone i have seen had probs and you definitely need a good 4wd, its worth spending more money on your car than being stuck at the end of the world.
