Hi All

the wind has been against me the last few weeks, Has been pumping during the week down the south coast and terrible on the weekends so i have not got as much kiting in this season as i would like. Yet again the wind is looking horrible for the south coast this weekend but it is looking like it could be ok in canberra on sunday.

I wanted to find out if anyone on here has/is kiting in LBG??
if so are you going out this weekend??
and if you are is it possible for me to meet you and have a chat about kiting LBG so i know the dangers, best wind direction launching points, restrictions etc etc.

yeah i have seen people in east basin before, alot of windsurfers actually, they launch from yarralumla bay. Me and my mate are thinking of canoeing out to the small island and setting up there, not sure if this is a good idea or not hahahah. Thanks for the reply

Anyone know about the rules and regulations of kite surfing in Lake Burly Griffin? Is it legal?

Im pretty sure sailing is allowed anywhere on the lake even up or down the river, You get a nice funneling effect with westerlys out the front of the governor generals, pretty gusty up in that area though, only good for dingy sailing. I sailed and windsurfed on the lake for years and never heard of any restriction on it. Although, its good to stay clear of the rowing course when its busy and watch out for powerlines as you go upriver towards adfa. Some of the clubs even used to tow kids to sail around the fountain as on a very still day it creates a small amount of wind. If you want to be sure go ask the water police at yarralumla bay

I never used to kite on the lake as its so gusty (much better for windsurfing), but i knew a guy who used to kite out the front of the boathouse in a westerly regularly. Make sure you got a stable kite with a lot of depower those westerlies jump between 5 -25knots on a regular basis, but i never tried the westerlies out the front of the boat house its apparently a lot more stable their. At yarralumla bay sometimes you would get a decently stable easterly come though just before dark, you can actually track it coming up from the coast.

Hey i would be keen to find out more about your experiences on Lake George. I have always toyed with the idea of kiteboarding on it but never worked up the balls (always herd story's of barbed wire, fence posts, shoulder deep mud etc) I used to landboard on it when it was dry.When you go down there next if you could chuck a post up here i would be keen to check it out and get some info from you, if you don't mind of course

@ Guvner, Thanks for the info, very helpful. I also new a guy who used to do it out the front of the boat shed, he also used to get out a little on lake gininderra. hopefully one weekend before the snow sets in there will be a good wind to give it a go. (once the snow arrives thats were i will be spending all my time :P)

I remember some different rules existing for the part of the lake that's in the parliamentary Triangle, but I couldn't find any references in this document.
