I'm looking for a few alternatives/recommendations to spend 3-4 weeks kiting near OZ (July/August). I'm looking for locations that preferably have:

• A high percentage of days with 15knots+ (90%/95%)
• A mix of waves and flat water
• Not too dependent on tides (I don't mind using a boat if required)
• Warm temperatures of air (25 degrees+) and water (20 degrees+)
• Offers some entertainment outside of kiting (other sports, places to go out, etc)

Any suggestions???

My other option is to go to the north of Brazil where all of the above is guaranteed.

the wind looks quite promissing. Do you have more specific recommendations as to:

• Best location to go to (right wind direction, mix of waves and flat water, other activities)
• Places to stay
• Etc.

I live in Port Moresby on the Southern coast, this is where the trade winds are most prevalent. there is a good choice of accommodation to choose from - back packers to quality hotels. To be honest you will feel a lot more comfortable in the better hotels.

you could ride off Ela beach right in town, But you would need someone to look after your gear on the beach. A 15min drive down the coast will get you to where we do most of our kiting, Taurama and Sero beaches. Taurama is great fun for flat water, Sero has a mix of waves and flat water but it does have a really tricky launch as the beach is in a wind shadow. I have trained the local kids at both beaches how to launch and land kiters even do limited rescues. A 30 min boat ride will get you out to Fishermans island where you get the best conditions for flat water and waves. I'll see if i can mark the sites on Google earth for you.

Aside from windsports, Scuba diving is the only other activity you can do in Port Moresby. Still if you talk to the right people. Fishing and dirt bike tours can be arranged.

try Mauritius. I was there in november and guys i was with kited probably 10 times in 14 days. Sure it could have been more but we spent first few days having no idea where to go. July has better wind im told to.

great nightlife, cheap food and the diving is awesome. i did about 9 dives as well and loved it.

airfare cost me $1414 return I think. going back again in november this year.
