My wife said she and the cameraman got some aerial shots from the helicopter, of kiters at Scarborough and just north of there on their way past around 17:40 tonight, Friday the 13th. I'll post these sometime over the next few days.

Sorry, should clarify, were still (digital camera) photos, not video. Taken with an awesome camera though. Maybe able to con them into getting moving pictures on their way past observation city one day this summer... Anyway, as I said, I'll post them when I get a copy.

Was out on my pole board havin some fun and saw the chopper buzzing around.

The kite boys were rippin!

Ryland got slotted (for a second) and got out (thought he was gonna get creamed)

Bergman was ripping it to pieces. (as usual) The Airush r and D team let me have a quick run on the new Converse 6'0 surboard - damn! now i gotta go buy one!

just a note on how the scene has changed this year- its interesting to see how every one is now using 9s and 10s - this would have been 12- 16s 2 years ago. The bigger surfboards are leveraging the kite's bottom end nicely. Also very rare to see a jump these days - but reos and airs were goin down left right and centre.

Its gonna be wild out there today Low tide, backwash and proper bombs coming through(might escape by heading to cott)

5 guys 20 and under throwing down at woodies offshore. yeah it has changed, the young folk are stepping up and pushing it hard. While the older riders are becoming waveslave.

Lol, woodies was good yesterday but comparing waves and freestyle is like comparing blondes and brunettes, you would hit that ****.

Carbine,

No doubt its great to see the young uns getting in to the sport. Sure beats doing burnouts in the car or becoming an R and B clone.

At the top level -there Seems to be a natural progression that entry level riders focus on the trick stuff and as riders mature they gravitate towards surf riding. Vari, Dre, Wainman, Felix , Ben Wilson,- there is a clear pattern.

Nothing wrong with sticking to freestyle though..some of us arent blessed with wave access. And the tech handle pass/ kiteloop stuff definately rocks.

If yer a surfer you have an outlet, if your a wakestyle stunt freak there is a choice there too. IF you are a true all rounder you can do both!

EXTREMELY harsh and negative words, and totally not in the spirit of this forum saying surf riders are becoming wave slave - totally uncalled for sniping.

Carbine-It Might be worth trying to keep your comments on this forum in a positive vibe or you risk becoming like "he who shall not be named" yourself.

Yeah,
The groms do tricks cause they're made of rubber.
They bounce back pretty good after a real bad kiteloop or two.
hehehe
Sometimes on a windy afternoon when there are no waves I visit the local flatwater spot.
For me, it's like watching another sport and it's great entertainment.
(I just spectate, I don't kite flatwater.)

The flatwater beach is always covered in spaghetti and the crew continually swap gear.
It's a fucn kitesurfing orgy.
Showponies boost huge in front of the carpark (that's the stuff I like),
and it's generally happy-hour at kitebeach.

The local wavespot is different.
The inside is dead for wind due to wind-shadows and the direction is weird.
The inside flats don't suit tricks or even straight-line kiting.
The launch is dodge too and death-luffs are common.
So there's not much happening on the beach and there's not much happening on the inside flats.

The reefline is the physical borderline for wind and wave action.
A wavey line made of limestone rock drawn in the Indian Ocean.
So you chug out across the flats, hit the reefline and lean into the power.
Catch a few, kill a couple of hours, and then dump the bitch back on the sand where you started from.

It's two sports.
I like the difference.
Viva la difference.

Ok, I have some pics, only problem being they are around 3.5 Mb/ picture. I can't seem to reduce quality below 200 kb to post on seabreeze, so I'll describe the kites and riders when I get a chance and I will email pics to those people.

I crapped myself, I seriously thought a white pointer was about to nail me when the chopper followed me out to sea.....thought they were waiting for the money shot..... Kiteboarder visously attacked by white pointer, Channel 7 just happen to be in the area when it happened"

Hi,

I'm posting a copy of the disk to Alex from WAKSA and he is going to post photos on that website as there is no file size limit. I'm having trouble emailing any as my ISP is rejecting them due to too larger file size.
