Just wondering if anyone kites at Beechmere in Deception Bay, Qld.
How is the beach/set-up?
Cheers,
Skipper.

Hey Skipper,

The beach in certain spots is about 2 to 3 m wide and then the rest is affected by the tide. Beachmere is ok at any tide level below 1.5m if you don't mind going around crab pots, stingrays and the odd bull shark.

The sand on the flats is fine and silty and gets into everything. It's very flat and shallow and very good on a S/E. You can do runs up and down the beach for a couple of klm's and only be in a foot of water. You can also get decent swell a fair way off the beach, but there are bities are out there. I only live 10 minutes from there but rarely kite there any more. A few of us used to kite there all of the time but now we travel around a bit to mix it up.

Thanks Crakas - what are close alternatives? I will be coming from Mt Mee.

It depends on what you like and your skill level.

Brighton is good but gets busy, We usually go to scarbrough north of the harbour on a Nthly to N/Wly and usually have the place to ourselves.

Bribie is good on the surf side on a Nthly to a S/Ely but gets a bit bumpy. Bribie is also good on a S/W at the start of the passsage.

Caloundra has heaps of spots and good surf, however is 20 mins further than Beachmere from Mt Mee and gets very busy on the weekends.

You should get the telescope out and sit at the Mt Mee lookout and see where all the kites are flying.
