Just a reminder to those visiting Caloundra to kite at Happy Valley.
This week is forecast 25+ knots all week.
Please do not over-estimate your ability.
We have already had at least one near death rescue and the lifeguards are not happy.
If you are a recent addition to the ranks of kitesurfers DO NOT KITE HERE in these conditions. Watch with enthusiasm and take some pics and wait for the wind to ease.
With a current of at least 5 knots adding to the wind strength, Happy Valley can be treacherous if you are inexperienced. Fast moving squalls create gusts of over 40 knots at times and exposed rocks, a wicked current, treacherous bar and no room for a down wind safety plan make it for experienced kiters only.
Remember, you are jeopardising the future access to this wonderful spot if you under-estimate the conditions and over estimate your ability.
If you show up with a 12m kite and ask for a launch, don't be surprised if we say no. If you see locals maxed out on 8m kites, don't launch a bigger kite and expect to be launched.
We post this message every year but we still get knob heads showing up and making d1cks of themselves.
Experienced and competent kiters are always welcomed. We are a friendly bunch.
