Kiters all round Australia can rejoice in the total success of todays Lighthouse to Leighton kite race.
Never again will AKSA or any state KSA be on the back foot when representing our awesome sport at any beach access issue.
After years of several attempts to get this epic kite event happening (through one of Australias busiest shipping lanes) it finally happened. Without incident, without any drama at all, the race today proved to every council & govt. bureaucracy that not only are we a legitimate sport but that our presence can be felt anywhere (reasonable) without fear of disaster or public inconvenience.

Total props to todays no. 1 man Tim Turner - instigator and major driver of this latest attempt to get the event off the ground. To WAKSA and the unequalled number of volunteers who made it all happen. And to Red Bull (huge effort guys and girls), Cabrinah/Dan/Reg from Kite Addiction, WA SLS Association, Rottnest Ferries, Yachting WA and all the other sponsors and bodies who came together to pull the whole show off. An unparalleled success and certainly a day to remember for life for 58 of us lucky enough to draw an entry. And thanks as well to the hundreds of spectators who crowned the event by fronting at the beach to see it all end.
What an awesome day.

Props too today for Ian Young - the only other person to ever make it happen way back in 2004 only to be totally thwarted by that fickle friend of ours "the wind". And to Michael Brooks (WAKSA) who put in a huge effort a few years later only to be frustrated at the 11th hour by the inevitable red tape.

The efforts of all those putting in the hard yards from our organisational KSA pioneering days up to the 11/12/2010 have been validated by this event.
LONG LIVE the freedom to KITE.
Power to the KSA's.
